Reverse sensor with Towbar

Featured Replies

Hi, I need a towbar on my 2015 Yeti 1.2 tsi se and am not sure which type to get. Will the reverse sensors be triggered by a fixed flange towbar or a swan neck? Or both?  Do I really need the dedicated wiring (costs up to £145 extra!) who has any experience with this please?

TIA

If you have the dedicated electrics, and have the coding done correctly, the reversing sensors will be disabled once you connect your electrics up.

Thanks Coops, but what about when a trailer is not connected, does the tow ball itself interfere with the sensors?

The rear sensors are not affected by the tow ball.

A dedicated wiring kit is the best and, in the long run, cheapest way to go. It is the only way to get all the modifications correctly coded into the ECU. Using the cheaper and less successful relay can cause problems.

As @Llanigraham says, they are not affected by the towball, even with a fixed one.

Thanks guys

I have a motorcycle rack mounting bracket bolted on and even that is well out of sight of the sensors.

Thanks Rick, do you have the dedicated wiring for the electrics?

Buy a genuine or westfalia kit (they are practically the same) and everything will function correctly.

They may be dearer but they WORK.

Quite.

And if the relay one goes wrong it can be VERY expensive!!

I have had three cars with rear sensors and had no trouble.

One Ford Focus and two 2.0 diesel Yetis. Towing Eriba and Bailey

with Winterhoff and Alko hitches.
