I like the deley on the headlight washers. nothing worse than washing and drying the car then accidentally catching the wiper stalk. It keeps the sequence for the number of screen/loght washes, think every fifth wash it then does the lights again with another 2 second delay. The washers are also handy for tail gaters, a quick wash, two longish sprays of the jets and hay presto...............

VCDS is in English, just some of the cars modules the descriptions in the module are in German, VCDS just reveals these as is.

 

I've had VCDS for several years after being ripped off by an independent garage for diagnostic work...VCDS is scary, but I double check everything, & the program has logging built in, but I also do additional logging & full scans.

I guess the 2 second delay for headlight washers is for a S III?

Ross-Tech is US based.  VAG-COM was originally in English and was first translated to German as Mr. Uwe Ross, the creator of VAG-COM/VCDS and owner of Ross-Tech speaks both English and German.  Today, VCDS is translated to 14 different languages as shown on our home page. 

 

As to the knock-offs, they are usually locked to one particular release of our software.  Until recently, the thieves were not able to make a device that could get past one version.  As with all things, if there is a will and enough time, the thieves will find a way.  We fight it everyday and do our best to protect our hard work.  But those who choose to buy from the thieves promote their efforts instead of ours.  I guess it is the way of the world. 

 

On the subject of potential damage..  sure, if you just go willy nilly messing with stuff, you could end up causing some real headaches.  Our tech team has dealt with such cases.  Biggest single issue is running long diagnostic sessions and letting the battery run down.  Most damage has been when that has occurred.  How hard is it to connect a decent battery charger and keep things topped up? 

 

Other disasters came from people pushing far beyond what we have documented.  You can do that.  But, you do it at your own risk.  In the latest version of VCDS (17.8), owing to so many requests for coding on the newest models on which we are still in the process of collecting information, we have turned on a feature called "Experimental Coding."  That feature makes suggestions of what we think may be in the module and we warn users, use it at your own risk.  We further ask that if things are confirmed, you let us know. 

 

But to those worried, some one in this thread talked about "drinking the Kool-Aid".  Right, what they mean is they are learning all that is needed.  At the start, go slow.  You are planning to keep your ride for a long time.  So, make a couple of safe changes and work into the more ambitious things as you build your knowledge and your confidence.  Have fun along the way.   For that is what Mr. Ross desired all would have using his diagnostic tool.
