Cam belt change

Featured Replies

Hi all I am reaching the time for my first 5 year cam belt change and wondered if it is advisable to change the water pump and tensioners at the same time

Charge the lot mate. Aways recommended.

I would do them all at the same time. A good independent garage where I used to live wouldn't change the belt on a VAG car unless the kit with the belt, water pump and other related parts was used.

Why? Too much hassle with annoyed customers coming back after paying for a belt and then having a pump or tensioner go... and having to pay for the labour all over again...

I have just booked mine in for March 20th, to have the lot done as well. I am also having a new set of L&K alloys as part of the five year warranty (I am paying for one wheel as I have kerbed it), passenger sun visor and glove box light as well. MOT and brake fluid change as that is due as well.

Big bill it is but is also a negotiated bill.

There is a slim chance that I will get the Kodiaq during the two days they will have my car. Here's hoping.

Just found out that they will have one Kodiaq then but the launch is the 6th April so the other cars to lend out will be later than my service date.:crying:

Get the water pump replaced at the same time. I have just had my belt and water pump done, two days before the work was due to be carried out the water pump failed anyhow so it is a false economy not to have the pump replaced. Tensioners come as part of the kit, no point in just replacing the belt.

Had the belt on my 170 done today, 440 euro including tensioners, water pump, aux belt, car wash etc.  The 1,6 is cheaper.  VAG are doing a fixed price deal at the moment.

Its different for different countries.

Here in NZ its every 180,000kms with no time period.

Anybody know what other euro countries time periods are what's difference with  UK  vechiles and our friends cars in nz ?

Yes, change everything and replenish the antifreeze (good quality VAG stuff)

I usually get the auxilary belts changed as they have to be removed anyway

kwmax, in Spain it's the same as in NZ 180,000km, no time limit.
