Weird Metallic Noise..HELP Please

Featured Replies

Hi

I just go into my 2015 Octavia diesel and drove a few hundred yards up the road...Suddenly I heard a noise like it was dragging metal along...I pulled over thinking the exhaust had fallen off but everything is in place...I then thought suspension but again all ok...So i started engine again to move forward to see what happens and again an awful metal noise...so stopped immediately.

No warning lights or indications showing.

I will call breakdown in the morning or later tonight but until then has anyone any ideas?

Stone or piece of grit stuck between the brake disc and the shield?

+1

OP - try driving in reverse and see if the noise changes, and maybe the stone drops out.

I did try reverse actually and no noise....and there were quite a few stones in the road from a spillage of builders rubble,,,maybe i should go and try reversing for a while and see if that helps?

I left the car where it was as didnt want to cause any more damage.

Thanks for replies

Reverse and hit the brakes hard. That usually does the trick for me.

Get stones stuck quite often in the winter. Aweful noise!

Many Thanks

I will try now

Should be able to see some heavier scratching on the disc as well if it's a stone. Terrible noise.

The scratching is usually on the inside between the disc and the shield, only occasionally is it on the outer visible side.

If it is wedged in properly you'll need to take the wheel off and poke around. Mk1 eyeball it to see if it is not fouling on the brake caliper side. Also a good excuse to see if anything else is at fault if not then happiness.
