I service my own vrs now its out of warrenty and i was just wondering if i need one of these to reset the service light and read any fault codes that occure.

I also service a golf and ford ford focus and a Astra. All these cars are about 2 to 4 years old.

Or do you recommend i go down the laptop and connector route instead

no replies then????

If you've already got a laptop, then the Vag-Com lead from ebay is only £20 delivered from China.

You can then download the trial version of Vag-Com from the Ross Tech website.

good idea do you know if there is software out there that can be used for other makes of cars

I think you will find instructions on how to reset the service interval indicator in the owners handbook for the Fabia.

The Focus and Astra use a differant protocol to each other and the Fabia.

GM cars tend to use VPW - Variable Pulse Width Modulation

Ford use PWM - Pulse Width Modulation

Most others including VAG cars use ISO.
