TDI 190 Oil and filter change howto?

Featured Replies

I read this thread;

https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/406600-oil-change-interval/

which was interesting, but it didn't touch the actual process of changing oil and (more important/difficult?) the oil filter.

As changing the oil and filter is not covered in the user's manual (at least not mine, it just covers measuring the oil and adding when needed), could someone tell me how hard it is to perform a full oil service?

Is the drain plug easily accessible, or hidden behind a skid/protection plate? Will I need a new drain plug after changing oil, or can I use the same over again? Any gaskets I need to be aware of (and save)?

And the oil filter - I see some hints that it might not be situated in a preferred location... Is it hard to reach?

Pictures/videos would of course be great!

I did mine last night with 6200klm on the clock. With the use of a friend's lift it was simple enough. Unscrewed the guard under the engine. The oil filter is at the bottom of the engine towards the front. Not accessible without going under the car. There were two wires/looms in the way of the oil filter so it is extremely hard to loosen the filter without oil spilling onto the looms but just accept it and have a cloth handy. The drain plug is easily accessible too with the guard off. 20 minute job in total for oil and filter. You won't need a new drain plug. I don't have pictures to show ya
