'Skoda Fabia 1.2 64 bhp Comfort Hatch'

Looking at the skoda uk website, the comfort model is no longer listed, only classic, ambiente, sport, elegance and vRS. So it looks like an old spec car to. IIRC the comfort was a lot cheaper, so I would as already said reject the car.

I have been looking closely at my paperwork for this car. I ordered, on a hand written order form, a 'Skoda 1.2 64bhp Fabia Ambiente' yet I got, on a typed sales invoice, a 'Skoda Fabia 1.2 64 bhp Comfort Hatch'. On doing a Yahoo search on 'Skoda Fabia Comfort Hatch' it states that aircon is a

Chris - The 'change' of order from a Fabia Ambiente to the Fabia Comfort was on the sales invoice that was given to me when picking up the car (sorry to say that I signed it, but there again you tend to trust such new car dealers). The difference in change was not pointed out to me.

I know that time is 'ticking by' & the longer I hang onto the car then the more I will have to keep it, but there was a dealer delay in sorting this out because week commencing 30th Jan 2006 all Skoda salesmen had to travel down to London for training for a one day training course (so I was told) & the 'zone manager' was there all week therefore I did not get the offer of

Reject the car on the grounds that it does not meet your requirements due to it not being what you ordered. Return the car, keys and paperwork to the supplying dealer together with a letter clearly stating your reasons for the rejection. Ask the dealer for the use of a courtesy car, free of charge, or failing that hire a car and reclaim the costs via a small claims court. Surely this situation contravenes the Sale of Goods Act? I think it would be unwise to accept the car, and equally unwise to accept a retrofit A/C unit. Like a previous post suggests, what else is missing?

Get Shut Of It And Get A New One. You Don't Know What Else May Be Missing.

Park it on their forecourt and refuse to leave until the offer you a courtesy car whilst they order you a replacement. Don't put any miles on it.

Don't accept the car 'as is' with a £500 discount. Your car will be alot less desirable on resale. Don't have it retrofitted. Hold out for a new replacement of exactly what you ordered.

All the best.

Steve

Seems it's not just the aircon then but that the car may not be what you wanted or ordered...

If you have a brochure, check the car's spec. against the Ambiente. The dealer may have entered an incorrect description in the typed invoice.

Also, what is the car described as on the V5?

Good luck and fingers crossed for a result from Skoda UK and/or the Dealers.

Further to what I outlined above, I think a little caution may be required.

I've just downloaded the current Skoda Fabia price list from the Skoda website and it appears that the Ambiente is currently on Special Offer (until 31 March 2006) to include AC in the context of "Includes Air conditioning including cooled glovebox and drinks compartment, offer option value £550." This suggests that although AC seems to have been a standard feature of the Ambiente specification at the time the model was launched in September 2004, at some time either between then and now (or only from 31/3/06?) the standard Ambiente specification HASN'T (or WON'T) included AC. Hence you're on much shakier ground than I imagined earlier this evening. It seems that even if your car is an Ambiente it might justifiably NOT have AC because in theory AC is or is about to become an option - albeit there is a special offer on at the moment where it's included as a standard "free" option.

So unless you can prove that when you agreed to buy an Ambiente model, you were clear that this was an Ambiente WITH AC, you're going to have to prove that at the time of placing an order that model came with AC as standard...

Addendum - sorry - forgot to mention that the brochure I'm quoting from is dated January 2006...

Further addendum - I also have the price list for early 2005 and the same holds true there - the AC appears to be a "special offer included option"...

Hi David

Many thanks for the photo of the rear lights. I have taken photos of the rear lights on my car & the inside controls, but now I have to find out how I attach them to this message. I cannot work out how to attach the photos but they are like the car on the right which you say if the new model, but I cannot see the reg number. I notice that the old one on the left is a 54 reg which only makes it up to 16 months old anyway. The heater controls have a wide button on the bottom of the heater controls & not a split two button being one for A/c & the other for recirculating. The badge on the back says it is a Fabia & there are badges on both sides near to the side repeater indicators saying Amiente.

I think I have uploaded the photos now8116.attach

I have seen a couple of 03 reg Fabias today & I think I have the new rear lights.

This special 'offer' as been rolling over, from quarter to quarter for at least 15 months now, each time with the same disclaimer about cars ordered between the begining of the 3 month period and registered before the end. Air con was also included on the lowest model classic so theoreticaly imposible to order a fabia without air con!! The car may be new stock rather than old if the offer is finally coming to an end..released from factory stock too early unexpected demand etc. Originally I expected the offer to continue untill the new fabia arrived, especially as it had been going on for so long, however if you look on drivethedeal an ammendment to their quotes as appeared where if the car you oreder from them is to be a factory order you have to add £447 to your quoted price excluding sport and vRS. These two models are the only one excluded from the current special offers on a fabia and 447 is about what i would expect discounted air con would cost as an option from drivethedeal. Just a thought.

I would reccomend that you reject the car and demand a replacement as there is no way the garage can claim the model/ or any fabia registered before 31st march should not have air con.

Even If the scenario I have mentioned is correct and the special offer of air con is discontinued your car will still be less desirable come resale so reject reject reject.

( or request FACTORY FIT AIRCON WITH NEW CENTRE CONSOL ETC so nodifference to ALL other fabias of this reg ps PLUS compo for inconveniance!!

Yes - you definitely have an Ambiente and thus you don't have the problem of having been sold an old car. Hence the printed invoice is definitely wrong and can be discounted.

So the fact remains that you have an Ambiente WITHOUT AC which is currently certainly included, albeit as possibly a "special offer" included "standard extra".

However the main Fabia page at Skoda's website (http://www.skoda.co.uk/skoda3g/content/showroom/fabia/fabia.aspx) clearly states: "... you may be surprised to hear we've given our award-winning Fabia a facelift. For a start, we're now fitting air conditioning as standard in all models - the Classic, Ambiente, Elegance and vRS. And we've given the interiors a makeover, with stylish new seat upholstery, door trims and steering wheel" and reading that makes one think it's said that since September 2004.

The equipment page (http://www.skoda.co.uk/skoda3g/content/showroom/fabia/specifications_equipment.aspx) clearly shows that the Ambiente has AC since it's noted as being based on the Classic model which has AC as standard.

The only sticking point in all this is that the downloadeable PDF price list states "Special Offer Air Conditioning including cooled glovebox and drinks compartment" which implies that at some point - either in the past or the future - an Ambiente model without AC is a possibility.

Nevertheless it's clear from the current price list that the Ambiente SHOULD come with AC and hence I think you've got a valid claim. As Skoda have said yours appears to be one of two wrongly specified.

As I've said before it's all down to how much of a fuss you kick up and how much hassle you want. Is

Update - I have now ordered another Skoda Fabia WITH aircon. The dealer has been good about it (in fact they have invited me down to inspect it tomorrow before they reg it). I got local trading standards involved but they are quite happy if I can strike a deal with them. So am looking forward to my proper new car, being the one I ordered. But, once again, I have to say that the dealer has been good about it.

I will let you all know when I have it delivered & many thanks for all the info that you Skoda owners have given me.

Congratulations on getting it sorted! Shows you have to stand up to the dealer and insist on what you ordered.

Glad it's sorted & that your dealer is doing the right thing :)

Update - I picked up my replacement car last Thursday (which was a date that suited me) & have now got aircon. Mind you, with the way the weather is, I have not been able to try it out yet (can anyone name the date this year when I will be able to use it, maybe we should start a raffle of when summer starts?). Trouble is, as it is still a 55reg & the same colour, nobody has noticed. Still I got the free use of a new car for 5 weeks & over 900 miles, all I have got to do is run-in another new car. But this is the first time I have ever 'bought' two new cars in the same year & I never washed the first one.

Thursday... that would be March 2nd? So shouldn't the car be an 06 reg?

Every new vehicle I have had has been registered on the day of collection, including my Leon which was stored by the dealer for 2 months from date of purchase to date of collection (September 1st - I wanted the new reg ;))

As for when to use a/c - it's great at stopping the car from misting up in the rain!! Just switch it on and leave it on!

No the car was registered on 28th Feb so has a 55 reg, but I was too busy to collect it on the Tues & Wed that is why I picked it up on Thurs 2nd March. I am not a number plate snob so being a 55 or 06 means nowt to me. As long as it starts when I want it to & it gets me from A to B, thats all that matters.
