Electric cars are putting increasing pressure on the UK’s power grids, making it vital they are recharged at the right time of day, a minister has said.
“We know the demand for electric vehicles places the national grid under pressure. It’s critically important – we are working on this. It’s particularly important that we charge smart, so we flex demand and take advantage of spare capacity,” Hayes told an audience in London.

I'm sure we're all shocked and stunned at this revelation.

I await the new 'grid upgrade contribution' taxes for electric vehicles when they get to critical mass and some supplements on the bills for the rest of us too, because of reasons.

The excreta has hit the impeller here with pumped hydro being seriously planned to fix peak issues and renewable fluctuations combined with the closure of coal fired plants.

Not without much politicking of course.

Economy 7 (or 10 in some cases) !

Under investment in power generation (as with Education, Health, Transport etc) .

I'm sure those people whjo have bought into electric vehicles will be delighted to find that the Government and the Big 6 Energy companies can now dictate when you can recharge.

Come home from work with a flat car, need to nip to the shops, go to A&E? Better call a taxi or an ambulance coz you're not allowed to charge until after 10pm.

(out of hours charging credits are available for an additional subscription, only £50 a month)

Some clarification maybe needed by the Minister on the UK's National Grid and the Energy Companies and SSE's part with Energy Production in the North of the UK and in the South and in-between.

The Wind turbines sitting not generating in Scotland and the Owners / Companies being paid not to generate, the Electricity Available but not taken into the UK's National Grid.

Smart Charging is obviously going to be very necessary without a doubt, but the 'Smart Meters' being installed into properties Nationwide currently are

a technology coming too late and already outdated as the System is still just being installed.

Where Generation of Electricity is possible cheaply off peak then get that information widely known to those wanting to charge their EV's or considering getting them.

Just do not use GOOGLE to do the UK Government advertising as 'unsuitable' ads or clips might appear like VW Adverts.

And drop the nonsense about how it "costs more to generate electricity a long way from London" too!

Dundee is obviously not Norway but drivers there are getting lots of encouragement to buy and use EV's.

All that available electricity that Scotland can generate and the UK Government seem incapable of using efficiently or giving

advise on when charging can be having less demanding on the National Grid if that is an issue.
