Hello,

I need to know what the total brake fluid capacity is on my 2013 Fabia TSI. I had hoped to find this information in either the car handbook or the service book but it isnt in either. I have done some internet searching  and think the answer is 0.9 litres. I am trying to get some idea of what my bill will be at my usual independent when the car is serviced. I have got prices from them for the Castrol Edge  oil and a new  non Skoda oil   filter and a new   drain plug and their charge for draining and renewing the brake fluid(£35).  Prices for the brake fluid range from £3/4 a litre up to £10 a litre and I am hoping that one litre will be enough to keep the bill down. Also, my local independent uses Polygard brake fluid. Does anyone out there know this name and if so is it any good? The Skoda parts  dealer sells only  Booo750m3 brake fluid and I have  asked for the price from both places. Is the Booo750m3 essential  or will another spec that meets DOT4 like the Polygard  do the job equally well? My inclination is to use  anything that is safe and also  save some cash as I only intend keeping the car for another 12 months max. I am sure the non Skoda oil filter will be fine and I hope to get enough information from all you Briskoda contributors on the brake fluid to make an informed choice. Thanks very much in advance!

Skoda do not do oil.   & Castrol is just their recommendation, no need to use that.

But make sure that it is VW 502 00 spec for fixed servicing if you are happy with that for 12 months / 9,400 miles.  so 5w 40 Full Synthetic.

Or for Variable servicing it needs to be VW 504 00, which is 5w30 Full Synthetic Long Life oil.

£35 for replacing brake fluid sounds a good deal. I think i am correct in saying the clutch also has fluid from the braking system, so should be drained/filled too. Might not actually HAVE to be done but swapping out one lot of fluid, whilst leaving the rest, seems pointless. I think Skoda main dealers quote around £60-65 for brake fluid replacement. Haynes manual states fluid to be.... DOT4  VW 501 14 9Part number  B 000 750).  The diagram they have, or photo actually, shows a DOT 4 bottle pouring in to the reservoir. No sign of a brand, just says clutch and brake fluid, although they do say use recommended fluids! I can't see the quantity needed. might differ from model to model as larger diameter brakes might have bigger master cylinders, reservoirs and thicker cables to supply a higher among of fluid to the callipers. Just a thought!
