oil capacity for 2017 Fabia tsi 110.

Featured Replies

I have a 2017 Fabia estate tsi SEL 110 with the four cylinder engine. I am finding the handbook information on engine oil capacity a tad confusing. It talks about "dry fill" and "service fill" and gives different figures for each. To me "dry fill" is purely academic as it denotes a brand new engine that has never been run and it is service fill that matters when you have a used car. Is that correct?

The handbook gives 4 litres for service fill. When the previous owner had the car serviced by a Skoda main dealer the invoice shows 4.22 litres was put in which seems a very strange   figure, I would have thought 4.2 litres was the correct figure. Which figure is it? 4 litres or 4.2 litres ?  i clearly do not want to run around with insufficient  oil but equally I do not want to overfill, both can have serious consequences for the engine.

I intend using Castrol Edge longlife 5/30 with this car and would welcome advice on the correct quantity     of oil that should be used. I am on annual servicing.

           Thanks in advance,

I always put in less than is recommended, then check the dipstick, and fill as appropriate.

So start with 3.5 Litres and after it settles, top up from there.

Exactly, no other way!  The quoted capacity is just a starting point, the extra 0.22 litre being quoted/charged for at service time is either just what was needed to take the oil level up to the max level, or a wee sideline for the workshop.

Most people servicing their own cars will normally not fill them up to the max level, but somewhere slightly below that as there tends to be a MIN marker, a MAX marker and a space between. A dealership is more likely to fill to the max level as they will be considering that the next person to check the engine oil level, in many cases, will be them, so they are by doing that to protect the engine as much as they can.

Edit:- to be completely honest, the only reasons that I want to know the nominal engine oil capacity is, firstly if changing the oil of both our cars - so that I know that I have enough oil to carry out both oil changes and still have a small amount spare, and secondly so that I know how much oil to just dump in to each car's engine and being slightly on the low side of filling to the correct level as a first re-fill before running the engine to check for leaks and to then check and correct the final oil level.
