Cylinder Misfire

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've got the code 04874 showing on my VRS. I've done some research and it looks like a dodgy coilpack is the cause of the misfire.

My question is, does this code relate to a certain cylinder, or will i have to replace each coil pack in turn to work out which is the dodgy one i.e trial and error?

Cheers!

Have you had the 4 Spark Plugs out and checked first before getting to suspecting the ignition coils?

Not bad timing really, assuming you haven't got a genuine VCDS cable I'm actually passing by your area tomorrow afternoon if you wanted me to stop and scan your car?

A vcds cable will tell you exactly which cylinder is misfiring.

I should have explained further...the problem is sporadic.  Sometimes when i give it some stick the engine management light and EPC light come on and the car starts feeling really ropey. Turn the engine off and back on and things are back to normal. The car has a Shark stage 1 map on it. Having read around the problem tracks back to a dodgy coil pack. I've picked up a new ignition coil from Skoda today - now just to work out which is the dodgy cylinder!

If you can wait until next week I can scan it for you still, it gives me and the girlfriend an excuse to visit the good ol' fish and chip shop in holmfirth :).

im away until next Friday.

?

So have the spark plugs been out and checked or when were they replaced,?

failing spark plugs can cause premature failure of ignition coils.

they were last changed 35k ago by skoda.

& you have Stage 1 and never whipped them out to check the first time you got a Light show?

Easiest and first check after fault codes because unless enough misfires in a cycle you might not get a code logged.

ok will have a look first. just a visual inspection to see if there's anything looking untoward?
