Cannot Access Central Convenience Module

Featured Replies

Using VCDS the 46 - Central Convenience module appears at the top of the auto scan for my car with no fault codes. However it does not appear in the Address list further down the auto scan. It jumps from address 44 to address 52. I also cannot access the module direct and it does not appear on the list of installed modules. This has been like this since I bought the car new in 2012. Should module 46 be ticked in the can gateway list?

I am going to code another members MkII pre face lift Octavia for HIDs and I thought that I would look on my car to familiarise myself with the location of the coding needed (I am aware that MKII face-lift Octavia like mine should not be fitted with HIDs without using a similar method to that which Mike Holdroyd has used). In my 09 - central  electronics module (j519), Part no 1k0 937 087 Q, I cannot find any reference to 'cold lamp diagnostics' in any of the bytes. I understand that I need to turn off 'cold light diagnostics for dipped beam' but where is it? I have looked very closely in all bytes but cannot find it. AlsoAlso in byte 14 I do not have a long code helper for bit 4, which I understand is 'xenon lights without shutter installed' and needs turning on. Would I have to enter that code manually reading backwards in the coding and starting at 0 e.g. 0000001 would become 0001001.

The MK2 pre-FL and FL cars are very different electronically.

On the pre-FL, the CECM and CCM are separate modules (address 09 and 46).

On the FL, the BCM replaces both with a single module (address 09) but also creates a 'virtual module' at address 46. This is completely normal and you aren't suppose to access address 46 :)

Once connected to the pre-FL you should find the right bits easily enough.

As for your FL, you're correct that you'd need to manually adjust the code to enable 'xenons without shutter' as I did when I retrofitted OEM xenons to my FL. If the original byte 14 is 01 (00000001), it would become 11 (00010001).

00000000
x - bit 7
 x - bit 6
  x - bit 5
   x - bit 4
    x - bit 3
     x - bit 2
      x - bit 1
       x - bit 0

Thanks for the clarification.

Does this mean that I am unable to turn off the 'cold lamp diagnostics' on my FL using VCDS although I can find an entry for using LED number plate bulbs? If I were to fit LED side, reversing or DRL bulbs would I have to use a resistor you fool the canbus or can the bulb out warning be turned off by VCP or Odis?

Richard

Correct, the only bulb warnings it's easy to disable on the FL are the licence/number plate checks.

All others will need to be done using VCP/ODIS or load resistors. Some 'CAN friendly' bulbs maybe OK although they tend to work by having a very small internal load resistor which can cause over heating issues and even melt the bulb sockets.

Personally, I believe that good quality 'CAN unfriendly' bulbs and coding is the better plan.
