Engine idling at 1000rpm suddenly and stop/start disabled

Featured Replies

Hi, been running my '15 Octavia 3 1.6 CR as a taxi for a week now and every couple of days it runs at 1000rpm for about 15 minutes and stop/start is disabled. I believe this is an active DPF regeneration. Can anyone confirm?

Also I purchased the car at 36k miles and don't know how the previous owner drove it so would a DPF additive be worthwhile putting in with the Diesel?

Yes it will be the DPF, roughly how many miles are between regenerations?

No I wouldn't waste your money on any additives.

Thanks, probably about 200/300 miles. I do a lot of door to door work but when on the motorway I tend to horse it a bit so it perhaps does passive regens without me noticing.

Sounds about right for the sort of driving a taxi does, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I use my Octavia for the same purpose and this happens fairly regularly too, nothing to be worried about as it's only the DPF regen. My older Mk2 Octavia was exactly the same.

Thanks for the comments. Never experienced this before on any previous car with a DPF, they all seemed to be passive regens.

You may notice a strong burning smell too during the regen which is nothing to worry about.

On my 2014 cr vrs you can't get anything into the tank (apart from the filler station diesel nozzle), so you'd need to purchase an emergency fill funnel thing too before you could even consider adding anything.

DPF Regen, mine does it sometimes on the drive into work - the first 10 miles of country road on a cold morning get it up to temperature, then the remaining 5 miles or so of urban stop-start traffic it'll try and regen.

1000rpm idle, no stop-start, stop start info says that the engine needs to be running.

The other way, once it gets up to temperature and I get back onto country roads I rarely notice it.
