Utilising the Tunit Advantage unit on 2.0TDi Euro6 engine.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys and gals, I would like to know if any of you Skoda Octavia MK111 owners have attempted and used a Tunit device to improve economy and power.  I only ask as I have tried with success after initial installation and test run, with a result of a dramatic smoother performance requiring fewer gear changes.  However the following morning the instrument warning cluster on the dashboard all lit up, and would not extinguish upon key turn.  Additionally a caption came up as a warning of  'Electronic Stability Control Activated'.  With all this going on the engine failed to start on my driveway - thankfully.  The only remedy I had to hand was to disconnect the Tunit device, reconnect all as normal , and engine would then restart.  I also have a canbus reader, and this gave no error at all on the meter.  My car has recently had a service with nothing to report at 10K, and the Tunit unit I have had couriered down to the manufacturer for a complete re-test. The device in turn came back- all normal.  I pull a large braked trailer fair distances, hence the use of the Tunit device.  Any opinions at all would be gratfully accepted?  thank you.

You will probably find that if the unit is indeed 'not faulty" it was down to one of the connections not being 100%.

By 'canbus' reader do you mean a OBD reader? They will only pickup faults relating to certain categories, not all faults are stored within those.

A full reader (various brands) would probably locate the fault code.

Failing that it was a complete coincidence and nothing to do with the Tunit box.

Personally not used the Tunit box, only the DTUK ones. DTUK do publish the tuned figures and are quite transparent with realistic gains.  I think that's one of the reasons they have a great reputation on multiple forums - plus great customer service.

Another advocate of DTUK here - great product.

I think your errors are being generated by having the box "turned up too high" so it's upsetting the ECU (for want of a better phrase). I did the same thing when I bought my DTUK system - put it on the highest setting and went out, instantly having the dash light up like a Christmas tree and it go into limp mode. A simple phone call to them sorted it, and ran trouble free for a year so far.

You won't improve your economy, that's bull****.

The boxes fool the ECU into thinking you are using less fuel so the calculated MPG increases.

The idea that more power means more time in higher gears and improved economy is unproven* nonsense.

*Anecdotes don't count.

Thank you all for the very constructive comments, which I shall take on- board.  I did however not indicate to all , that in fact the Tunit unit I have refered to was used at level 5 setting on my previous Vrs (euro 5) model without trouble for seven years.  Granted that my newer Vrs is a (euro 6) and trimmed down to setting '3' of ten presets. The result was brilliant after first test run, however a re-start from cold caused the 'Christmas tree lights' effect and limp mode again . I may well try setting '1' , and if not successful, then it goes on the garage shelf!
