Sato will be a god in Japan after this.

  • Or that Pippa is a better driver than Fernando.

So you didn't wince at every 220mph+ overtaking manoeuvre into the turns in the first 450 miles then?   I know I did!   Monaco hasn't really excited me since watching Berger qualif

Who will drive his McLaren-Honda at Monaco??

Nobody cos it will probably breakdown anyway, so McL just won't bother entering 2 cars!

Not read the statement.

He's bored. Fed up with McL and Honda. And is ready to walk away. This is a sweetener.

Agree.

Although Zak Brown and the shareholders don't.

Honda are trying to hold on to their asset.

McLaren want greater visibility in a major road-car market.

Pole day today. Alonso got in to the top 9 shootout for pole at just over 230mph (7th quickest).

Ex Indy champ Seb Bourdais is out for the season after crashing and smashing his pelvis whilst doing the quickest laps seen yesterday.

Jenson Button I believe. Lets hope Button Wins at Monoco

Well, I'll settle for JB getting into the points at all.

Already some carnage, drivers OK though....

Someone needs to buy a lottery ticket. Could have easily been fatal.

Honda reliability strikes again.

They still might win!

I stil remember watching him when he was the fastest ever in F3.

I'm having difficulty with this "Indy 500" is a great motor race business. To me it's more like spending 2 week "pre-qualifying" to sort out your initial position for a 450 mile qualifying run that is followed by a 50 mile sprint race!

I know I did!

Monaco hasn't really excited me since watching Berger qualify the Ferrari 412T2 in '95.

Check this out - especially the second lap!!

Monaco is just for the sponsors.

It's either a procession, or a completely bizarre finish due to accidents (typically only on a wet race).

The addition of more and more kerbs around the Marina have drastically reduced the exciting overtakes of the past

Indycar go to one of their slow street tracks with few passing opportunities next week - Detroit Belle Isle.

2 races over the weekend but little excitement I expect.

Perhaps Alonso wished he was at Indy!

Sato just crashed!

noise, overtaking, speed, everything f1 lacks.

Indy car has a real low-rent image; without Alonso there's just no worldwide interest this year.

Even when Rossi crashed Wickens out of the lead with one lap to go at St Petes, no-one cared (apart from Seb Bourdais - who inherited the win)

However, F1's been pretty competitive and fairly unpredictable this year IMHO. So far 6 races split between 3 winning teams and drivers.

Unlike the Marc Marquez show over on BTSport2, which is getting more and more like Schumacher era F1 - we nearly always know the winner before the start.

Another Ozzy winner in a major race.  One of the major differences are they in the Indy 500 compared to Monaco you cannot hold up everyone, even though you are much slower, because it is just about impossible to pass (well done Max for passing a dozen or so).

Attendance looked around the 300,000 mark and at least it is more reasonably priced for the average Jo.  Cars doing 230 mph looks impressive to me.  Well done Chevy.

This year's new aero package has been roundly criticised Stateside for making the 500 boring, due to overtaking being too difficult. They should have tried watching Monaco !

2019 - Alonso 24th in final practice but 31st without a tow - so in danger of not even qualifying.

So maybe McLaren running their own team (with help from Carlin who are also amateurs at Indy) wasn't such a good idea.

Last time they just went to a top team (Andretti) with a can of orange paint and could have won it.
