Think my DSG problems just got worse

Featured Replies

Disappointing. Whether the DSG has been poorly maintained and that has played a part or just a failure of the oil cooler has caused all the problems start to finish, either way it seems you'd need an exchange box or something from a wrecked car.    Maybe the latter could nearly be economic when it fails?

If the previous owner had of noticed the problems you have and the sludge in coolant I guess it should of been investigated rather than carrying on!

That's the idea to get a box from a wrecker when the time comes, but I've also found out I have a gearbox fitted that isn't very common, HQL.

It never rains but it pours

Is there any cross compatability?  Is it ratios or something else?

This is what I was thinking I'm guessing bell housings would be the same it would just be the ratios that were different

I did find this website

http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/octavia-mk2/power_transmission/gearbox_02e-dsg/technical_data/technical_data_for_the_gearbox/identification_characters_aggregate_assignment_ratios_(octavia_ii)/

So from looking at that I would say there is some cross compatibility unless someone can correct me

That is pretty detailed. Lots of type ID changes. There must be a pretty good chance a later 02E transmission, with the same ratio set up would work from those tables. A lot of the type changes seem to be manufacture year revisions, with the same ratios and fitment to the same engine. Of course, some others seem to be tweaked ratios which could upset maximum rpm and kickdown etc..

...Waits for anyone who has done a change out with a different type to confirm and come back with yes or no....

Another update.....

Fingers crossed the car is fixed, replacement gearbox fitted. Bought from a breaker in Doncaster came out of a low mileage Seat Leon, fitted by a local indy (S P Simnett in Cradley/West Midlands), highly recommend this indy. The breaker showed me the car and the service history of the donor car and the indy commented on how clean the oil was that came out of the replacement box, so far so good lets hope this car lasts for a little while without something else going wrong.

Great news mate hope its sorted

Well I have the receipt in front of me now, the price is inclusive of VAT I was mistaken earlier.

I asked them to clarify what the repair is he said clutch pack kit which includes some bearings and some other internal gearbox parts. Not sure if this is true if someone works for Skoda or VW could you confirm please. If it's just the clutch pack I can get this for around £330 from Dark Side Developments.

Just bought a 07 plate octavia 2.0tdi pd dsg  and i hope im lucky because it has had a new turbo and clutch fitted along with the mechatronic   gearbox is a charm just now but fingers crossed

Fingers crossed mate.

I'm using mine as a taxi so does go through the gears quite a bit, I've found that if I'm doing a 3 point turn when I put it in reverse or if slowing down as if coming to a stop but pulling away before actually stopping it can be a little clunky, it's as if the gearbox is a little slow to change.

As I said I'm using it as a taxi so I will have the gearbox oil changed every 20k rather than every 40k, if the car lasts that long
