No I sneaked into the storage yard :)

Blimey, that's a disappointment - I really feel for you on that. Will you accept it if the bodyshop knocks it out, or are they sourcing a new bonnet?

Bit crushing (no pun intended) when you were looking forward to driving it away.... B*gger.

Isn't that another in the background in the same colour you could nick the bonnet of that one (unless it's someone on this forum lol)

That's a silver behind it, mine is cappuccino

Nit it due to pick it up until end of the week anyway.

A lot of cars get damaged during delivery, from all marques and lots of happy new car owners unknowingly driving previously damaged cars on the road.

BigfootW,

i thought you had confirmed you have the model you can not have a tow bar fitted to for towing.

?

What is on the cars plate, no Weights showing?

Looks like a car transporter deck has been dropped on it. As Mannyo said above, it happens

They should put a new bonnet on it if its brand spanking new. I wouldn't want a new car that has filler on the bodywork.

They won’t use filler, a decent PDR guy should get that out, the beauty of not having a new bonnet is at least the colour will be spot on rather than blended into the wings.

You will not get many people to paint just  the one panel... no matter how good they are, it’s nothing to do with being a crap painter but the difference in a colour match (where several things will affect the paint colour)

Without trying to get too OT, most people cannot see the difference in colour between a freshly painted panel and factory paint, but it’s there...

At a local detailing day this was proved when the detailer (who has been doing it all his life, from bare metal resprays up to detailing a Veyron), he simply walked round the car park and spotted all the cars that had had paintwork on them, this was from over 20’ away, then he pointed out where the paintwork was blended, this was all confirmed with a PTG, two of the cars were less than 6 months old and to their owners knowledge had never been painted (so delivered that way from new), yet most of us could not see the difference in colour.

I have personally witnessed this on a MKII Escort which was painted from a bare shell, the bonnet (Carbon fibre) was not available at the time of painting so was painted a week later, with the paint from the same tin, painted by the same sprayer at the same pressure etc, but was a very slightly lighter finish.

Obviously not everyone does the job the same way, but many will refuse to paint (for example) just a bonnet for this reason.

Either way, I would rather a PDR guy repaired the bonnet (providing the paint was not cracked)

Are you saying that the OP's car would not only need the wings sprayed to match but onto the doors above the tornado line?

Well the factory will have to supply a matching bonnet if that is the standard of painters the dealership would have painting the bonnet.

PS,

I used to work on refinishing vehicles damaged in transit and also fitting dealer option parts, these were spoilers etc.

Agreed. Many car manufacturers have it in their repair policy that filler cannot be used as a valid repair method. I won't name the ones that don't have such stipulations, but there are a few.

If the the transport company damaged that, then I bet they will replace the bonnet as that'll mean they will make more. If it's out their pocket PDR guy for sure.

I’ve been in a similar situation.

Lesson learned: reject the car in writing and demand that they build you a new one. Then wait and see what they offer you in compensation (never mind just a repair) and, if not satisfactory, insist on a new one. It worked for me.

Hope they sort out the dent to your expectations..

Regarding towbar, get a photo of the plate on the car.. this will confirm if a towbar can be fitted or not.

Dent sorted

did t get a photo of the vin plate, but dealer tells me that it says 0 for towing.  He's unsure if it can be fixed retrospectively when they do get type approval

?

Really unsure?  He / She should have checked they are in the Motor Trade after all, because what you get is what you stick with.

Nice repair..

If the plate says 0kg for towing, it cant be retro updated and that is what you are stuck up.

If a tow bar is a requirement for you, I would now be looking at what options you have for a replacement car.  The type approval will only come into force from a certain manufacture date and will be indicated via the vin plate only.

Mini had this issue a few years ago also where some engine spec combo later models had approvals.   There is no process in the UK to have an individual car Homologated for towing following its build date.   If anyone finds one, please share
