Fabia Vrs - Boy Does She Fly!

Featured Replies

I thought I'd treat myself and go out for a little spin this evening - just got back.

Now just south J11 of the M4, down the A33 are some little country lanes. First time round, I'm stuck behind this Freelander who was giving way to cars just before a small bridge, and so I follow it. It eventually turns off and I carry on, getting lost in the country side doing crazy speeds.

Then, I realised I ended back up where I started. Right, I said to myself, time to do the same route again - with no cars in front.

I get to the same bridge, but admittedly doing about 50-60 instead of 10mph behind the freelander - and she takes off

Must have been about 50cm off the ground. A pure rush of adrenaline and I felt like Colin McRae for the next five minutes with this evil grin on my face and tears of joy (or maybe following the emotional shock of being airbourne!!!) :D

Anyway, I hope the suspension didn't take too much of a hit. Pretty hard landing when it came back down again.

The thing is, it's sooooo much fun throwing it around, I'm scared I may just break the car to bits.

So, if anyone is around Reading and wants a nice humpback kind of bridge, just shout and I'll give directions ;)

:D so your getting used to the car then

you should do the national route sometime... youll catch plenty of air round there ;)

yeah great air in wales!

Lol @ your sig fabia.... so you like red dwarf then :D

Hmm. National around Wales... Shame I couldn't make it.

Has anyone got it traced on a map or can give me the exact route so I can go training one evening? ;)

I guess the complete lack of feedback regarding if I'm damaging the suspension means "no, keep flying - it won't break" :p

Well, if it does break you'll probably spot it straight away.... :)

Edit: there's a semi-decent humpback bridge (smallish) near my parents... can get air off it at around 70ish.... :D

i knackered the front wheel bearings on my flying trip!

tut tut. :D - Like you'd ever catch me abusing my little treasured furby out on the open road. I'm yet to get it airborne totally yet, but I did get some good "weightlessness" around Wales over some of those more undulating sections. It was normally a feeling of weightlessness, followed swiftly by a BANG! as the suspension bottomed out. Good fun though.

You didnt get any proper air in wales? gawwd, you wernt trying hard enough :D so thats why i was so close to you in the last section

yep, but what about when Matt and I tried to keep up with Jon through that singletrack lane... I got some good little jolts then. :D (I don't remember seeing a black clio and silver furby in my mirrors on that little sprint) :drive1: It was the same when I was following him down that B road from the Pembrey Forest - That was the one time I topped a ton. :D [it was a private road... wasn't it?]

Jason was that the same private test track i was playing with the punto at 110 in horizontal rain? :D

Yep - That would be the one, Alex.

I do love Wales, so many private test tracks of varying wdith, length, bendiness. :D

Do you turn off A33 by Wellington Monument...go across roundabout and then take the first left and follow the road down to a bridge? Will eventually come out by the A327.

If this is the bridge I go over it everyday on my way to work....very quick road if a bit bumpy.

Uhm' date=' no, just before that. If you're going south from Reading, turn right at the roundabout when you lose the dual carriageway. About a mile north of wellington monument. (see attached) I know the road you're talking about - never been down there though. Maybe I'll give that one a try.

[note to self']Must make a chart of best bridges in the area providing airbourne possibilities[/note to self]

Gawd, just realised, this post is really sad

Edit: 1) X marks the spot! 2) how do you get pupeyes smilie? Trying "disable smilies" function

I know the turning you mean....not been up there but a potential route for a mini-meet drive.

Check out the route I described....got a bridge and is very quick and bumpy.

Won't be able to arrange anything for November although others are welcome to...may be a pre Christmas get together though.

I think by the time everyone can get to decided upon venue it's pretty dark. Roads I've been talking about have no street lamps. May be leave these for Spring/Summer.

Furry muff.

If anyone else is up for it, please let me know. Don't know if I'll make it to Duxford, so it was just a thought of getting 3 or 4 of us meeting up over a pint or two... ;)

Xavier - Don't forget Derby on the 13th.

Not that far from Berkshire is it? :D
