I'm curious to know how deep the Autoleads spacers are that people rave on about. May pop into the local Halfrauds to look at a pair.

This is all dependant on negotiations wth my new employer, but hopefully it will stay.

Well, the doors are now fully deadened, and the speakers in!

All thats left to do now is set the whole thing up... So many friggin settings... :thumbdwn:

Initial signs are that is sounds brilliant! But will do a bit of a better review when its been run in and set up...

A couple of piccys....

Spacer made of MDF with a bit of sound deadening inbetween, and a hole for the cable. Pretty crude, but work well!

And the finished speaker in. Crossover mounted neatly, and all in all I'm quite pleased. The tweeters are behind the OEM grilles, so prying eyes won't be able to see anything other than the head unit to give the game away! ;)

And heres a pic of my wee fuse box (in progress). It will be mounted next to the glove box behind the panel a'la the proper fuse box on the other side of the dash! It will run the sat nav, bluetooth kit and iPOD interface.

 I haven't broken anything doing this lot. :thumbdwn:

I think I'm getting good at it - the key is not to rush. ;)

The iPOD interface is fine if left to shuffle, sound as good as a cd, but menu searching is VERY slow. :o

'ang on Thomas dear boy... I seem to recall you saying how you were rushing to get it all in and as a result are going to strip it all out come summer and re-do it all properly ;)

Do it once, do it right :)

You say the 'ipod' sounds as good as cd,what bit rate have you used?

I've got mine to install, but waiting for warmer weather.

Did I say that? :P

I will be redoing the boot build, but thats it. There could be a new car on the horizon. ;)

But you are right, things like the spacers were rushed, next time it will be a carefull slow right first time effort...

You know what its like though - all excited to get it in!

They sound awesome mate... looking back I'd probably do a comps only setup running off a small 2 channel amp. But heck in for a penny...

Well, I got the manuals out, and read a few threads on here, and OH MY GOD! :surprised:

I know its only a modest install, and I'd litereally just plugged it all in on the default settings etc. I thought it sounded considerably better than standard, but a little underwhelming. I just sounded a little thin.

So I got out the instructions, reset the headunit, disconnected the sub and set about setting up the front components. As they are the kicks, I set the high pass to around 80Hz, and levelled out the gains for the 2 channels. The next step was like waving a magic want - removing the low pass module and turning in off! :o

I sat in the car, and was just grinning, can't believe Id been so stupid, but I played a few different tracks, and it sounded sweet... Tweaked a few of the levels on the head unit, and I really am amazed.

Then the sub - I had no idea what dB boost is, or Q factor, so just twiddled them until they sounded best. Got it set up so that 0 on the head unit sub control sounds niceley blended, very subtle... And that gives me the control to crank up the bass when desired.

I really am over the moon! It actually sounds like I hoped it would.

The only thing now is to tweak the internal eq on the head unit - need to dig out the owners manual and have a go. I'm not sure much improvement could be made tbh.

ah well, thats it, I'm off out for another drive!

I normally listen to rock and dance, but for now my "Soul and Pimp Sessions" and remastered Dire Straits albums are staying in!

Glad your happy!!

That really is a fantastic sub i'm running it off an alpine mono amp and it is superb bang for buck but also contolled aswell.

Absolutely. I'm running it in quite a small sealed enclosure to give nice controlled bass, but I imagine that in a massive ported enclosure the SPL would be something else

Like I say, join Freedom and I'll give you lots of high-res images and a how-to!

Nice job Tom, I'm planning a few tweeks to my Octy II but will probably wait until the weather is warmer.

Quick question - where did you get the carpet for the boot install?

Great job Tom. Those pics of the speaker / crossover in door has such a strong sense of déjà vu to it all :D

I really need to sort mine out. Got it nearly done, then kind of left it temporary and never finished it off - my tweeters are still on blutak :o

Looking forward to a listen too.

Well, the final bit is in. As well as replacement RCAs to elimitate the noise problem I was having.

And its entered into the IASCA competition at Donnington in April too .

The Becker head unit is great. Sits perfectly flush in the Fabia dash, looks very OEM. Its a joy to use to, very simple, nice clear green screen too. The iPOD integration is superbly quick, and the sound is simply divine. Best money spent so far imho. I really cant fault this head unit.

It would be nice if I could get the screen to say "Skoda" instead of "Becker" when it starts up though.
