Garage checked the car today. They wanted to thouroughly check, incl drive shafts, brakes, etc.  They could not beforehand rule out any clear cause for the noise.

After they called me back, I asked them to change the gearbox-mount anyway:    Just got a call back:   noise is 100% gone. Engine is even quieter overall.

The old gearbox mount turned out to be a little weak.  Normally not really an issue, but because of the outlay of the gearbox and tight spacing inside, gearbox just touches the

cars' coachwork when steering left and causes screeching and resonance noises.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!.  Costed me EUR 220,-    I'm gonna check with the seller if we can settle something.

Hi

I have the same issue with 2016 skoda octavia ambition when turning left. Cannot get a straight explanation for the noise the car makes from the garage I bought the car from. I am going to try the gearbox mount as your have suggested and you says it has fixed and cured the noise.

I have mentioned what you said to the garage and will not listen

My own mechanic does not think the mount is the issue as he thought was a dirty brake pad on the left and needs to be cleaned and lubricated. Has done this and noise is still there.

I just want to know out of interest is the mount replaced underneath the car or is it replaced under the hood of the car?

Any information would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi Mark,

The Skoda dealers i contacted first and some VAG Specialist garages all denied it could be the problem. They all wanted to replace wheel bearings or repair the gearbox.  But reading some forums I was certain it had to be the gearbox-support. So I insisted and my local garage listened and fixed it.

The gearbox support can be replaced from under the hood. It’s located under the battery (for a left hand driven car)

Good luck.

Replace the gearbox? Of course they would like to do that, if you have to pay for the work... I would think they would change the mount at the same time, as a matter of course...So the £30 mount would be cured, for a few thou!

My warranty is suppose to cover engine and gearbox but they are cute out as they will wait until warranty runs and then replace mount and charge me god knows how much.

I will get my mechanic to replace it and forward them the bill if resolved.

Did the seller ever compensate you for replacing the mount?

The garage I bought from had no interest in doing it as they claim could not find the source of the noise. So I had to consult with my own mechanic. My mechanic was not sure what the noise was. I asked him to change the mount which I bought myself and he changed old and put in new one. Seems to have resolved the noise but don't worry I will contact the garage I bought from they can compensate me for part and labour.

I have had a resonating, rubbing, grating noise when turning left, even just the slightest touch off straight when driving.

I asked my mechanic to check it out. He checked all the usual suspects from top to bottom.

I saw this forum and this section and how the left gearbox mount (under the battery) being replaced cured it.

My mechanic was sceptical to say the least, backed up by numerous skoda officianados disbelief.

I took the plunge and bought a replacement, my mechanic swapped old for new and now, no noise at all.

It cost about £70 plus labour. Roughly 1/2 to 45 minutes to do (very experienced mechanic) at home.

Not sure of repercussions if not done apart from personal discomfort.

Hi All, i have recently bought skoda octavia 2015 green line from a trader to put it as a private hire vechile so when i bought i didn't realise the nosie on turning left but after few days of driving it i start noticing the noise when turning left i went to mecanic and told him to change the gear box mount but he opened the battery and its box and by looking at it he goes no mount is ok then we changed brake pad discs left side front wheel bearing and cv joint but noise was still there so i went to tps and bought gearbox mount from tps and went to different mechanic and asked him to replace the mount and soon gear box mount replaced the noise on left turn is gone completely .

Hi,

Its dealer only part and i got it from tps it costed 84.84 pounds and tps only sell it to traders but i got it as i got taxi badge. There is other option you can buy second hand from breakers but i personally wont go that way i have heard even a mount is slightly weak it wont fix the noise issue.
