VCDS-Lite

Featured Replies

Anyone know if VCDS-Lite is compatible for coding on the MKIII Fabia? I'm happy to pay the $99 for the registered Lite version plus lesser amount it will cost for a suitable OBD2 to USB adaptor but don't think I could stretch to the £225 odd for the whole full VCDS 3 VIN kit.

I would consider the CARISTA app but the fact that you now have to pay for it on a weekly/yearly basis doesn't really appeal to me.

Any information would be greatly appreciated

What is it you want doing?

I got Carista free app and it did what I wanted it to.

If it's not much you want doing, might be cheaper to ask someone local with VCDS to do it (unless you really want to own it yourself)

If you buy carista app you get a month free, make your changes then cancel the subscription. Can all be done online

Want to change things like having coming home lights. With the fogs etc. Needle sweep as that's just fun and just other such things that I can see whether I like or not. Plus as means I'll be able do it on friends and other family VAG cars.

Plus I enjoy techy things such as being to do this your self. Bit a sense of achievement for my self lol. I play around with raspberry pi's etc. So it's what I rather like getting into. Plus from what I've noticed there's no active members nearby with VCDS anyway unfortunately.

Far as I can tell you only get a months free trial if you buy their Bluetooth adapter. Other than that you have to pay for it if using a 3rd party adapter

Fair enough, you sound like you'd get your money's worth out of it then

I didn't have to subscribe to Carista to get anything, just downloaded the app and used my old Bluetooth adapter

I never see OBDeleven mentioned much in the Fabia section. Is there a reason for this?

Glad you agree :) So anyway just want to double check that VCDS-lite would be definitely  compatible to be used with more recent VAG cars? As i have read somewhere on the rosstech website something about it only being able to be used on pre can-bus interfaces.

The wording is weird to get your head round on their website at points, to whether they're talking about the unregistered version of VCDS-lite as shareware or the registered version as shareware as well. As i dont want to be going and paying the $99 before I know it will unlock the ability to save code not just test it. Might be a case of contacting rosstech via email to find out unless anyone here knows for sure.

Contacted Ross-tech and looks like I won't be able to make use of VCDS lite afterall. This is what they said.

Unfortunately, VCDS-Lite wouldn't support your 2016 Skoda Fabia, since
VCDS-Lite will support only older k-line vehicles and  it doesn't
support vehicles which are using CAN-Bus for diagnostics. Please read a
following link:http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/canbus.html

So looks like I may be going into OBDeleven instead as that currently does seem like the best value option now for technical customisations. Would be nice to have all the functionality and ability of VCDS but right now I really cannot justify spending over £200 for it. Especially if it's limited to only 3 VINs.

On the idea of coding be great if someone finds out if it is possible to use the front assist as a front parking sensor. On the courtesy car I had while my old MKII was in for a service it had both front and rear parking sensors giving an indication of the trajectory of the car as you were turning the wheel when parking.

Hey abaday I have OBDeleven, reason I didn't go for Carista was cause of the cost, looked into odbeleven and alot of people liked it so I tried myself, if you enjoy long coding it works like VCDS does and you can also follow the VCDS guides for long coding, (I've done that myself) and I haven't found something that is different, only difference I can see compared to VCDS is alot of the stuff is not translated but for the price its a winner :)
