Retrofit projector headlights

Featured Replies

Gents,

As far as I understand retrofitting Xenon headlights (from VRS) is pretty much impossible due to needing headlight washers, automatic leveling system and different wiring. But what about halogen projector headlights? Do they also need headlight washers and automatic leveling system? Standard basic headlights do not look great, definitely need to be changed.

Thank you

Put on better halogen bulbs like Osram night breaker. You get white beam xenon like. And next time don't save money on lights and get xenon or full LED.

It's a shame car industry is still using halogen bulbs for head lights deas days and not xenons as standard at least in Europe ffs!

I`m more after looks rather than actual light output - I live in London and there is lot of light on the streets. I didn`t buy my car brand new, but 2 years old.

If there is a halogen projector unit it should be a straight swap. Fully appreciate where you're coming from though OP,  cr@ppy halogen reflector units on cars clearly designed with the projector units really stand out for me.

How hard it is to retrofit Xenons? Is that only for hard core mechanics?

Mind that the factory xenons have the AFS (or AFS II) function - they have motors in them to steer the light around corners and adjust their own height. The AFS II ones also change the focus dependant on the prevailing weather conditions I believe (stand to be corrected) - ie, if the wipers are on, the car knows its raining so the lights focus differently. So, all that needs wiring and programming into the car with VCDS - and then there is the headlight washers and device that adjusts the height. I cant really imagine its an easy job to do properly and it sounds like you do want to do it properly.

Ok, it confirms what I read previously, its nearly impossible.

This is correct, the Bi-Xenons have AFS which does alter the beam depending on speed, weather etc. As a minimum to do a retrofit, you'd need the Xenon Headlamps with D3S bulbs, Ballasts, wiring adaptors, AFS controller module, levelling sensors on suspension, headlamp washers, all the VCDS coding etc. Can imagine this is an incredibly time consuming job, and quite costly unless you can somehow obtain all the above cheap.

Could I do without AFS and all fancy functions it does?  Is levelling rquired if I dont carry loads/passengers?

Auto-levelling and headlamp washers are a legal, but not MOT, requirement with Xenon headlamps.

A car with Xenon headlamps doesn't require either auto-levelling or headlamp washers to pass a UK MOT test (but if they are fitted they must work to pass the MOT), but if they are not fitted then the car is not compliant with the relevant vehicle lighting regulations and hence is not legal - it's one of the examples where an MOT is not proof of legality.

I have seen both reflector and projector headlights in the 2013 on Octavia, not all are xenon, so retrofitting projector headlights should be a straight swap, should you want to fit HIDs

I used the Ledperform website to find the same make & model bulb in all three sizes for my car, you need H7, H8 & H15.

A little VCDS alteration to the DLR night time brightness to remove any colour difference at low PWS range ie. brightness signal

Cost under 90 quid to get the whole front end showing bright white at 4,350k, not considerably longer view but, a nice look

I doubt they would be OEM.

I think Skoda offered 3 options but only 2 in the Uk.

1. Reflector headlights with halogen DRL

2. Xenons with halogen DRL

3. Xenons with LED DRL.

They are the only three option listed for replacement headlights.
