Water in rear lights

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have water getting into my combi's left rear light. Its only a little bit, not 'aquarium' levels.

So far I have tried cleaning up the seals on the bulb connectors, and drying out (as best as I could) the light using a hairdryer. There are no cracks or obvious breaks in the lights.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to cure it? Maybe replace all the bulb connector seals?

Thanks

Matt

I had the same issue on my Twindoor.

The plastic welding / seal of the lens to the main body of the cluster was poor. I used some silicone sealant but it was still never 100% perfect...

Thanks, will give the sealant a go on the next sunny weekend.

I had the same prob on my MY13 Combi.

I put silicon on the top edge, between the lens and the back assembly.

I didn't put silicon on the bottom edge so it can drain if it wants to.

Seems to have fixed it.

After experimenting with silicone (didn't work for me) I figured the most likely entry for water is between the channels at the sides of the boot and the plastic mounting tab of the lights. There seems to be only a foam insert to stop the water through here.

So, I did a temporary fix by taping over this joint. Within a day the moisture in the light was gone. We had serious downpours over the weekend so it got a good testing!

Next step will be to put some 'nicer' looking tape over this joint.
