Hi! :)

Just got a 2012 superb elegance estate.

I have an s7 edge. Car doesn't detect at all!

I tried Skoda website for vin entry. . Nothing.

Phoned dealer and they want 65 to even just find out if an update is available.. or not!

Anyone any experience with this please?

Can't believe I can't just download to an sd or DL DVD and sort myself like others seem to?

Many thanks in advance any help.

Are you trying to pair using your Columbus touch screen or using the MID? (note that the MID is the way to do it).

If there are any phones listed from the previous owner(s), delete them first.

If there is still a problem, and assuming that your Elegance comes with the Columbus in the UK - disconnect the bluetooth module (its under the drivers seat) and then reconnect. Get the model number of the module while you are at it.

If there is still a problem, also get the version of your Columbus unit and post it here.

(Just FYI - my s7 Edge pairs fine with my 2014 Elegance so hopefully this can be worked out).

What are you looking for an update for?

S7 should work with the bluetooth module that's installed in the car but you need to set this up via the Maxidot menu. The Columbus system doesn't handle the bluetooth pairing at all - it just communicates with the bluetooth module after pairing to allow for easier call-handling.

Being an Elegance, you probably have the GSM III setup, so go to page 137 here to set it up with your phone: https://ws.skoda-auto.com/OwnersManualService/Data/en/Superb_3T/05-2012/Manual/Superb/B6_Superb_OwnersManual.pdf

It will default to rSAP mode with your phone, but you're better off changing this to HFP immediately.

The Columbus manual will guide you through interacting with a paired phone: https://ws.skoda-auto.com/OwnersManualService/Data/en/Superb_3T/05-2012/Navigation/Columbus/B6_Superb_Columbus_NavigationSystem.pdf

Changing the Columbus firmware won't help and I'm not aware of any firmware updates for the bluetooth modules fitted to the MK2 Superb so I think the £65 will be waste.

I'd expect an S7 to support both rSAP (premium) and HFP (handsfree) protocols so it should be able to connect.

Do what IT say when you call them with a problem...

Turn everything off and then on again, the try and connect again.

£65 from the dealer to tell you nothing would be the same as burning £65 over a bin!!!

Tried again this morning and it worked! Many thanks. Weird lol.

Managed to get it off premium. What's the advantage? Am I right in thinking premium is you can't take a call when driving?

Many thanks again!

Premium effectively removes the SIM card from the phone and uses an antenna in the car to connect to the mobile network.

The upside is you should get better signal and text messages can be shown on the maxidot/columbus.

The downside is that your phone won't be able to make/receive calls/texts or use data services.

Some newer BT modules can also create a WiFi network to allow data services to work whilst connected using rSAP/premium.
