Take A break message

Featured Replies

I've just done possibly the longest journey so far in the car of around 150 miles. At just over 3 hours the dash display came up with a suggestion to take a break followed by another 15 mins later.

Is the car analysing my driving style or does it do this simply on elapsed driving time?

TIA

It monitors steering inputs and movement when above 65 km/h

Thanks for the speedy reply.

It certainly measures steering input a few months back I did a four hour drive before it came on and more recently had it come on after only one hour.

It should say, "  Have a break, Have a kit kat  "

My trip was nearly all motorway and not a lot of lane changing. As traffic was fairly heavy I just left the cruise control on and it played follow my leader.

I think there was only one moderate braking need. I certainly did not feel I lost concentration at any time.

Interesting though!

I think this is what it is designed for, nobody falls asleep and drifts off line and knows about it. It monitors your driving style and warns if it changes.

It certainly works, as last Dec I drove back from London after a long transatlantic flight and it alerted me after about 45mins to take a break. Somehow the system knew I was tired (which I was)

Thats what Lane assist is for, every one in the middle lane is asleep and LA keeps them in the middle lane

Simply clever

I'd taken over from SWMBO  on a long trip and was surprised to see the message after an hour. One and only time the message has appeared on any trip. Not sure why it appeared. I was stressed out certainly , but driving steadily.

Is there a way to check if you car has this option?

Think so

Car on the Radio, settings and it's under Driver assistants or alerts. It's a tick box

I had this message on a recent trip to Cornwall, about 2 hours in I was a little tired but not enough to warrant the warning. it seemed to occurr after slowing in roadworks with a 50MPH speed limit. but coming back there were even more disruptions and no warning.

Driver Alert is a pointless PITA - sometimes it comes on during long motorways journeys in light traffic - why would I steer, change speed or brake? Other times it doesn't come on when I'm tired (I just stop and take a break) - so just a gimmick as far as I'm concerned.

Perversely if I head south down the M40 it comes on but not if I go north on the M6.

I've had it trigger a few times on trips between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Often on early starts or after long days. Ironically it always makes me feel much more tired! It's as if the car just pointed out that I "look terrible".

What irritates me is that when I am not tired I am quite keen on avoiding potholes, which may require the odd sudden change of direction. It senses the steering input and the message pops up. As I do grow tired, I avoid potholes less and then it shuts up about it :)

Wonder if that message is a VCDS setting... *heads to car with laptop and cable*

agree it's a pretty pointless piece of tech.  audis a few years back had just a simple alert after 2 hrs (iirc) solid driving- that made more sense in my view that trying to analyse your style.  as has been said you might need sudden steering input to avoid road debris / other cars ditto braking - its a bit of a stretch to assume that these are merely due to tiredness.

if i could turn mine off i would.

Can you check please if you can get an Image if a Kit Kat on the radio.

Then it could be:--

Ideally it would be  an animated image of the kit kat finger being snapped in half.

The Audi version for the more sophisticated driver.

I turned mine ON last year just to see what it did. It's only activated once ,as my earlier message. I assume I could turn it off again if I could navigate the infinite menus.

99% of the time it's unnecessary, but occasionally it does make me think "yeah, probably time for a coffee/monster".

With my luck, that happens just after I have passed the services and the next one is in 30 miles.
