Fabia vRS questions from ex Scooby owner

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm sure some of you (TaviaRS etc.) will recognise my username from scoobynet.

It's good to be here and I've been informed I'm BRISKODA's 1000th member. :D

So a few questions then.

18months ago I swapped my Scoob for an Alfa 156, the main reason being my wife's back problem, she struggles with harsh seats that have a severe sloping base. I looked at the Octavia RS when I bought the Alfa but Lorraine couldn't get comfortable in the Octavia's sloping seats.

I been to my local Skoda dealers today and they have sold their Fabia RS demonstrator so we couldn't try one, salesman said the RS seats are similar to the classics as regards firmness and angle of the base with the RS seats having the heavy side bolsters. Is he correct?

My Alfa has Eibach sports suspension and bangs and shudders over potholes and ridges. Most magazines quote the Fabia RS as having a softer edge to the suspension setup but a bouncy ride on B roads. How have you found the suspension set up on yours?

Finally my dealer hadn't got much info or prices on the availble options, anyone got the full list. I'm interested mainly in, Climate, Zenons, Heated seats and Cruise Control.

Thanks in advance

Lee

Hello Jon. :)

Didn't get to Donnington on Sunday, was looking round the Skoda dealers, my wife has had a shunt in the Felicia (Not her fault) and it may be written off. I might end up with two Fabia's a second hand TDi Comfort and a new Fabia vRS if I can get a local test drive.

So can anyone give me any help with my questions.

cheers

Lee

I find my suspension on my Fabia fine. just a little bit high so i've got some Eibach springs and Koni dampers, i'll let you know how I get on.

I think the seats are very comfy, supportive but not to hard and lots of scope for adjustment (height etc).

I bought the local demo straight out of the showroom before it could even get on the road, owner reckons he cant get anymore until next year now.

Thanks Techie.

I find the Alfa a bit too harsh so the Fabia RS setup may suit me better.

Have you sat in a standard Fabia? If so do the RS seat bases slope downwards at the back more than the standard Classic/Comfort/Elegance seats? My wife is OK in standard Fabia seating but sloping bucket seats like those in the Octavia RS but extra pressure on the base of her spine, the standard Fabia seats have pretty flat bases.

I know the side bolsters hold you in the seats better but is the seat padding a lot firmer than the standard seats?

Cheers

I just wish my local dealers had one.:)

Seat's, Yes the vRS slope slightly more than the Elegance does. They are however very adjustable (base lean and height etc), so would be supprised if you/better half cant find a comfy setup. They are certainly more supportive than the elegance's. On ride a m8 has a 145 Cloverleaf and the ride on that does shake the plastic loose (litteraly! the dash actually comes away from the window!). So ride is certainly better in the vRS and my suspension hasnt bedded in properly yet.

IIRC the Furby vRS I looked at had slightly sloping seat bases, but the padding was similar in firmness to my Comfort TDi. I found the seats supportive and comfortable.

I posted a thread on the options here

They are not listed in the brochures etc but they are available.

Welcome to briskoda btw!

Thanks again.

I have e-mailed a few more dealers to try and get a test drive.

they are however very adjustable (base lean and height etc)

Is that just the drivers seat or do both driver and passenger seats adjust for base angle? I notice on the link that height adjustable passenger seat is an option, any idea if this option gives base angle adjustment?

Cheers

Lee

Personally I find the seats in my Fabia vRS much more comfortable than the seats in the wifes Octy vRS.

Wife has a really bad back and she sat in the Fabia quite happily on a not stop trip to Cornwall.

I like the seats in the Fabia vRS too, the bolsters are quite soft and just the right height.

if i had to nitpick, id say the lack of lumbar ajustment and maybe the side bolsters go too high for a narrow seat that some people with broad shoulders might have a problem.. but it doesnt bother me.

the ride is very good and compliant, with little body roll and good control over bumpy surfaces.

get one - you wont regret it. :)

Just had a look, you need to order the height adjustable one I think. But my other half rates them better than her's in the elegance.

I ordered the height adjustable passenger seat on mine partly because I went for the sunroof and you get a bit more clearance and also it was only @

Yeah that's how the base adjusts, using the height adjustment, the base 'rotates' to a lower angle (so you can get your legs under the steering wheel I would have thought).

So am I right in thinking that when you raise the seat the back of the base lifts more than the front so you end up with the base more level?

I've got a test drive booked for Thursday afternoon at Farmers Nottingham but there demo doesn't have a hieght adjustable passenger seat.

Fabia TDi.

So if I order the height adjustable passenger seat will the passenger seat have the same adjustment control as the drivers seat? If this is the case as long as Lorraine can set up the drivers seat OK she should be OK in the passenger seat.

Thanks for all your help so far and I'm sorry if I seem to be going on a bit but this will be the only reason that stops me buying a Fabia RS.

Cheers

Lee

Yeah, if you can get her comfy in the drivers seat then get yourself a Furby ;)

Just so you know had a very bad experience with Farmers of Leicester (long story) just hope nott's is better :) cant be worse ;)

I wouldn't buy from Farmers they are just the nearest dealer with a demo car. As long as I can get a good price I'll buy from my local dealer Rainworth Motors.

My Felicia's from Rainworth and have had nothing but first class service from them.

Have also submited a request form to www.buyyourskoda.co.uk for a price, may give me a bit of bargaining power.

If I can't get a car until the end of Jan I'll wait a few weeks and get an 04 reg on the first of March.

If anyone is thinking of buying an Alfa mine is two years old and has done 20k miles. It was

I would assume the adjustment conrtol to be the same for the passenger seat with this option.

Basically it must be the same as the drivers seat from a LHD Fabia?

hello logiclee. I can't comment on the seats of the vrs (as i can't really remember what their like) but i can inform you that i have recently ordered my little vrs from lloydstsb's carselect. They were able to give me a deal that my two local dealers could not get close to.
