Decision Time

Featured Replies

So I have ordered a Sportline 190 and need to finalise the colour over the next week, thanks to @drewellis summer pic, moon white is leading the way. The quartz grey in the pic did look classy but I saw one today, a bit dirty and without the bright sunlight is just isn't the same (for sport line) in the flesh. Dealer informed me today that the Velvet Red is available for order but there are little or no photos available, I would order the Corrida red in a heart beat and sub the metallic for a sunroof (for the black roof mainly). Still leaning towards the moon white without the comfort of photos for the velvet red but concerned about up keep, cleaning, tar spots, etc.

Would love to hear from owners regarding the practicality of the colour they have chosen, after all we don't drive the brochure pic every day. Also does anyone know if the velvet red is pearlescent?

Edit: Spelling (hopefilly got them all) ;-)

@MaddicIrlglad my car helped, moon white metallic certainly is good looking. Hopefully you can try and get some photos of the red colour to make sure you're getting your favourite. From a maintenance / cleaning point of view for moon white, I travel quite a bit in mine for work (about 400 miles per week).

When I bought the car, I paid for 4x genuine Superb mudflaps plus fitting, but they weren't in stock. I couldn't wait any longer so I took the car on the agreed day and arranged to have them fitted 2 weeks later. When I first got the car (bearing in mind this was mid-Feb), it was getting pretty damn dirty from eating motorway miles in our beautiful British weather, despite my ritual of washing the car every weekend!

However, this was completely resolved when the time came and my car was fitted with the mudflaps; unless the weather is non-stop atrocious and/or I drive up some incredibly muddy/dirty roads, the car stays pretty clean and good looking for a good couple of weeks (this is also helped by the fact that I had Carpro CQuartz paint protection applied by a friend - much cheaper than the dealer's Autoglym stuff which is nowhere near as good!).

A point about the mudflaps, in case you're not sure:

I think they complement the car as they add another contrasting black part like the roof/fin/grill/wheels/spoiler etc. They are also VERY well fitted - they are solid, they don't 'flap' or add any wind noise. I've actually scraped one of them by accident when driving down a kerb (no visual damage) and it didn't move a millimetre! :)

Hope my info helps, I bet you can't wait :D

Certainly does help, thank you @drewellis! I negotiated mud flaps in the deal, with 19" Vega wheels (not standard here) and preliminary order white, I knew they were a must. Good to hear they have the desired effect. Must look into the CQuartz paint protection, I do like to keep a car clean but on Irish roads (I live quite rural also) next to impossible, I enjoy cleaning my cars but excessive elbow grease every weekend is even beyond my enthusiasm!

I went with quartz grey and am disappointed - even when immaculate and in good light, it's just grey with little depth or sparkle to it. Moon white looks best in my opinion.

Thanks for your opinion @D402, sorry to hear the colour disappointed, looks really good in @drewellis pic though, nearly swayed me.

I think this is the velvet red.

I'm not sure if I am in the minority but I actually love this colour but to chose it would take balls, if it was a 280 I was ordering (I wish) this is a colour that would be given serious consideration, would be a decision between loud and proud or sleeper (black), but not on a 190 bit of a sheep in wolf clothing about that in my view.

I guess my original question concerning white and maintenance, the reality is because its a sportline and lighter colours highlight the sport line bits, the likes of tar spots will be a PITA for any light colour. The superb is such a balanced design that it looks good in all colour options but would really like some velvet red pics before making final decision.

I bought the sales manager's car, which was/is Corrida red. In low light and under a couple coats of double-speed wax, it starts to look a deeper colour, much like the ad shot two posts above. A darker metallic red would be better IMHO, so I'm also curious to see this velvet red.

If the sales manager's car had been Dragon green instead (and why don't they call it Dragon yellow?) I would have been just as happy. I think that's a great colour on a Sportline. Maybe not so much on a L&K.

You're not in the minority - my Corrida red Superb isn't due for replacing for a year and a half, but if I can stretch to a car that gives me the Dragon Green I would in a heartbeat!

Has anyone seen a Velvet Red Superb yet?  I've just changed my order from Petrol Blue to Velvet Red, and the factory cut-off is Tuesday (tomorrow!) night.  I hope I like it :)

Haven't seen a car in that colour but this colour pen sample suggests it's darker than Corrida, almost like a metallic wine red / bordeaux...

Shame but i suppose that's another one that will let mine stand out as an awesome colour that others missed out on :D

Good move. I think it'll look great - I've always loved cars in a deep red metallic, and I think it'll suit the Superb...

Thanks, I hadn't seen that site.  Their picture of Corrida Red is way off though, so I'm not sure what to make of their samples.

The other place I've seen Velvet Red is in photos of the coloured balls here, though the balls are notoriously unreliable as well:

Sad news - Skoda aren't accepting orders in Velvet Red yet.  Back to Petrol Blue for me :)

@simhub I knew you would see the light and come back :)
