FL 2.0 TSI 230 Oil

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'd like to get a 1l bottle of oil to keep in the boot. Is Qauntum Long Life 3 still the one to go for?

Quantum Longlife 3 meets the spec and is great value. As long as it meets 504/507 spec it is fine. Generally this will be a 5w30 oil, but there is a Shell 0w30 which is also suitable.

You won't need it, at least not that urgent. Mine is almost at 10k (kilometers) with very little consumption. Reminded me to check Today, but don't expect any adding before first service at 15k.

If you really want to have a spare, buy exactly what they've added in the first service. Ask your dealer, maybe they can even provide it to you.

Oil consumption varies. My Mk2 certainly has always used a bit of oil, even when new, and has pretty much always needed a top up between services. I think if you check the oil frequently you have a point but if you wait until the car tells you it's nice to have some on board, especially if on a long journey.

I thought same by reading experiences from Mk2 and TFSI users from Audi, Seat and Golf as well, and was generally prepared for it, but it doesn't seem necessary for O3 and latest TSI. It uses so little, you will have really plenty of time to figure out a solution.

After my MK2 FL VRS TSI needing a top up at least twice a month in it's later life, I wouldn't fancy owning another VAG car without a top up bottle on standby in the boot. My MK3 had a minor top up of about 250ml in 13k (light wasn't on) but it was towards the middle of the min/max on the dipstick. Better to have and not need, than to need and not have :)

Is that based on just your own car or collective ownship experience across a significant sample?

I would be very happy if you are correct and my forthcoming 245 never needs a top-up of course!

Its probably worth having a top-up in reserve as the oil (in my experience) is nearly twice the price in petrol stations as it is to buy in supermarkets.
