Advice for buying used Citigo

Featured Replies

I have bought and sold over 12 citgos, seat miis and vw up over the past year

the common fact on getting a good one is basicly going for low mileage

after these cars hit say 25,000 - 30,000 you tend to get wear in the rear shocks, which makes a knocking noise ( replaced rear shocks on the last 3 cars )

if the car has been driven on road surfaces with potholes etc this can really do damage to the front and rear suspension, basicly check for weird knocking from front or rear when going over bumpy road

when you get around 30,000 the clutch release bearing gets a lot louder on tick over, when the hit 40,000 miles it even worse

I would personly disreguard  any cars over 35k miles, (note to myself never buy one again over 40k miles)

servicing is also a point to look out for, people whould just take them to back street garages who put in cheap oil and filters etc, causing the dreaded top end rattle to the engine

on the plus point everything is cheap to replace

if you can,  go for the better elegance spec or sport mii, these are always in high demand

on vw high up the price seems to jump up £1,000 for the same car on the gap and glass prices, but you pay extra just to get the vw badge

bear in mind these cars are cheap, and built cheap

40k miles on a citigo is like having a golf with 80k miles!!!

it was exactly the same when I used to buy Mitsubishi evo 10's  when these cars have 40k - 50k they are basicly going to need things doing to them, so avoid these problems by sticking to low mileage first thing

Even accepting that these cars are built to a price I am appalled that problems arise at the relatively low mileages you state.

I have always considered a car is barely run in at 40k.

Citigo is not sold in Australia but I was tempted by the Up! which was sold here for a short time.

I run a small 2003 Toyota Echo (Yaris) which has done about 120k of some really hard miles in the not so tender care of my daughter who was inclined to miss the odd service (or two), forget to fill it with petrol, and collect the odd speeding ticket.

I know that two shocks and the brake pads have been changed on it but that is about all and it does not burn any oil and still averages near 50mpg which is close to its official figures.

Surely there must be some high mileage Citigo users around who can report better experiences than this?

Are you buying just ex-secuirty guard with NASA mileage Citigo's :)?

Seriously, ours is at 54,000miles and has NOT missed a beat, MOT had NO advisory and SKODA service inspections has NO works due or pending...... it still feels like new!

Also if SKODA product was a bad as you mention why would they offer the extended warranty to 5 years 100k?

I'm 100% with you with competent servicing thou
