Drew's Superb progress thread

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've made this thread to track what I get up to with the car, feel free to add your thoughts if you like :)

I bought the car in February this year spec as follows:

16 plate Superb L&K

moon white metallic

Anthracite Pegasus alloys

pan-roof

2.0 TSI 220 DSG

all the L&K gadgets including TV tuner (I think they excluded it from standard spec in later models)

These first photos are from when I went to test drive it, and then on collection day when I'd got home :)

Next, I got busy with properly detailing the car, had the mud flaps fitted by Skoda and then had Carpro CQuartz applied professionally by Tazglow detailing, Poulton :)

From then I've just been enjoying the car in and around where I live.

I also had the pleasure of borrowing a new Fabia estate when mine went in to have a faulty seal and rattle investigated :D

Also took some photos of some nice details included in my car's spec...

My partner's son bought a Golf GTI mk7 Performance Pack in candy white, so we got some good photos of the cars together

The photo of my car in the quaint village was featured on the official Skoda Russia Instagram page :)

And then my car went in to have the quad exhausts fitted....

As some of you may know, the exhausts fitted were far too loud. I originally asked for just a tailpipe conversion which I was told wasn't possible....

So I went somewhere else and had them done as I wanted :)

I then took delivery of my Sportline spoiler from Superskoda, had it painted and fitted.

Also got a few more detail shots for my Instagram page (ace_superb)

During the nice weather I came across a lovely Sportline, so got a few shots of them together

I also took delivery of my logo light units which despite featuring the old logos, I love! I think they look great.

I thought the exhaust cutouts from the diffuser weren't as far up as they could have been, so I went back to have them cut more, and the tailpipes moved further up into the rear bumper to make them look a little more integrated (see last pic in this post).

Liking what you have done! Those 19's do fill the wheel arches better. Can't wait for my moon white sport line (I know your is L&K), I will just have to drool over these pics until then!

Those wheels should be standard on L&K. They look great and really suit the car.

Thanks guys I'm really happy with it :). once my diffuser is on I'll be happier with it... Famous last words ha :D

Today I washed the car (and got told off by SWMBO for being obsessed with my car....does anyone else get that? :D

I used my phone's video editor to make a little video on my process...

I want to spend a day on mine, wash, polish, glaze and glaze again, wheels off to clean and protect - will have to do it when she is at work ;-)

Hah yes I know the feeling

Car is looking great. ;) I was lucky on my exhausts as I was able to purchase the 280 so didn't have a problem.  And as I purchased a new L & K also combi, I ordered the 19" Phoenix diamond cut wheel option as I thought the car looked better on the bigger wheels too.

Unfortunately mine is in the repair shop so I cannot sit and enjoy how great the car looks now. Drew ordered his a few days after I did so we have been in contact and are fully happy with the way our cars look...

Drew - Defo a great choice by both of us... have you noticed any adverse affects since going to the bigger rim size???

Me too I want to order some new  Chemical Guys pads (orange and white) and refine the finish as I can tell the previous owner had it washed at a hand car wash place that use silcone blades to dry to car..lots a lovely straight surface scratches that need to be dealt with sooner rather than later.

I just wish I could polish out all the scratches to the black plastic trim inside....the previous owner (which I didnt notice at the time of purchasing) didnt take much care when cleaning as its totally scratched to hell.....I will have to replace all the black plastic parts as and when the piggy bank allows then I have a cunning plan to keep them tip top :D

I watched the video above of the car "washing". It would be interesting to know how long the process takes. Whenever I advocate the following I am accused (justifiably?) of being mad but here goes anyway! Many years ago a Skoda salesmen told me that the optimum way (time/effort versus result) to clean a car was to use dishwasher rinse aid solution. I have done this for years using a sponge for bodywork and brush for alloys. It takes about 10 minutes on a Superb and gives, in my opinion, a very pleasing result. From the sublime detailing to the ridiculous wash?

:o Hope it's not in for anything too serious? The tyre place screwed my tracking up when he put my wheels on, I'm still not convinced so I'll get Skoda to do it properly when it goes in. Also my tyre pressures were all random so I've corrected those now...

The ride on mine has gone a little harder but hardly noticeable...in fact I think it's better, because you can really tell the difference between the DCC modes now. Sport is really hard now compared to before (but still not as hard as our Golf GTI), Normal just feels like a standard ride in any decent car, and Comfort is noticeably smoother and much more relaxing on any sort of road.

Before the wheel upgrade, I always thought that Comfort and Normal were very similar - Comfort just felt a bit bouncier if that makes sense? I've come to the conslusion that DCC only really makes a difference to how 'undulations' in the road surface feel. It does soften pot holes / cracks very slightly but because the wheel takes most of the hit on these types of bumps you do still feel them.

How's your ride now? Getting the same sort of result?

Fyi, I had the long black trim on the dash replaced by the dealer recently, because it comes attached to the LED strip which was faulty in my car. I waited over 2 months for it because all those trims are on "back order" - the service lady said that they aren't a stocked part - the factory have to actually manufacture them when ordered!

The process in the video took me about 2 and a half hours, followed by a wave of rage from SWMBO because the car is "all I think about" :D

Problem is, I'm a perfectionist - I take ages with everything!

The dishwasher rinse aid idea is interesting, I don't think I'd try it though as my car's had Carpro CQuartz paint protection applied which is sensitive to certain chemicals, if a strong cleaning product is used (e.g. TFR) it can strip the protection off (which wasn't cheap). I even tell the dealer to make sure their Romanian valeters don't go near it :tongueout:

The very reason why on my paperwork I get them to write 'DO NOT WASH'.

Horses for courses though.  If you're happy with the result then, ultimately, that's all that matters.

Glad I'm not the only one :)

I recognise the problem with SWMBO . With me it is you "are always on Facebook/Briskoda/email "etc etc. To elaborate about the Rinse Aid method it does give a fairly decent shine for minimal effort. At first I used to wash the car with an ordinary detergent solution and then rinse via a watering can with fine rose using the rinse aid solution. I have found that when the car is just slightly soiled you can just use the rinse aid solution. As regards damage to the paint protection you use rinse aid in a dishwasher normally on your crockery which you then eat off and hence it must be very mild indeed. Dishwasher rinse aid is actually a drying aid which promotes shine on whatever you use it on. The method is good enough for a non perfectionist like me but has a couple of snags. Do it out of sunlight or you tend to get a white haze ( my Superb is white anyway). You will have to leather the glass to remove said haze.
