Front Parking Sensors

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow Kodiaq drivers.

Got a quick question for anyone that can help. Took delivery of my new Kodiaq Edition last week with several extras added on for good measure; loving it apart from one thing. It arrived with one thing that was missing from the configuration and that was the front parking sensors which I had been told was fitted as standard to the top of the range model!

I am in touch with the dealership; however they are saying they can't be fitted retrospectively!!

Does anyone have any ideas?? It's the first time I've ever bought a new car to order and woundered what my rights are to get this rectified and even if it's possible??

Thanks.

I have a Kodiaq Edition on order for Sept Delivery. First of all I have done a lot of research on the spec of the car, as on the whole the Skoda Sales people I have encountered have little knowledge of the actual detail. I have just checked the configurator for the Edition  AND IT IS SHOWING FRONT AND REAR SENSORS £350 OPTIONAL ON ALL TRIM LEVELS .They are included though with other options ..eg PARK ASSIST , AREA VIEW CAMERA. Details from spec sheet downloaded May 17

I did have a SH Superb Elegance Estate ( 61 plate ) and was told  front sensors could not be fitted nor could a reversing camera be fitted. I pointed out that I would not buy without and that a VW camera part was available on e'bay.

The parts were fitted by the selling dealer. I would certainly persist with the dealership as someone was misinformed. Don't give up.

Unfortunately, they are not standard on any model currently.

As above , they are an option.

Unless you have it in writing you can't do a lot other than complain and hope they compensate you, which they don't have to do.

It is not the same. I did that with my wife's Captur and now I have front sensors just beeping but the display itself can't show distance from the front sensors like it can with rear ones. Even the beeper sounds different and doesn't work so accurate like original rear ones.

My cousin had the same issue - but the link Gizmo posted to is different. They are using VW components that integrate with the RNS510 - or Columbus as its called in my Superb - so it is fully integrated ....

"Type 3
Genuine VW Optical Parking System (OPS) - with or without Park Assist. This system is designed specifically for VW, Seat & Skoda vehicles. It is a genuine VW kit however it is unavailable for fitting at VW dealers. It's a flush fitting kit which utilises all genuine components to give a 100% factory finish. They are fully colour coded to the paint code of the car. Please note, we do not drill the bumper as commonly done, we instead use a special hole punch (genuine VAG equipment) in order to achieve a perfect finish. If your car has either an RNS510 (minimum FW1000), RCD510 (part no. 3C8 035 195) , Bolero, Columbus or Seat Media System it will display the status of your parking sensors on the actual unit, see image below (shows front & rear kit). If you are having the front & rear version of this kit installed, then we can also offer to install the VW Park Assist system which is the self parking system from VW. The Park Assist system is only available for the Golf Mk6 (2009+) or the Passat B7 (2011+) with MFA+ or the full Highline FIS/DIS."

You're snookered my friend. Plainly states in brochures, configurator and anywhere you care to look"rear sensors" unless the wires exist at front of car for the sensors then you will not be able to incorporate into display. Best you could get is am With with beeping box. Which will work just fine.

Thanks chaps for all your advice. There does seem to be some confusion as Gizmos link seems to suggest it can be fitted retrospectively? The bottom line is I was told by my dealership that they were going to be fitted as per my order and I have written proof. So its now a case of Skoda working some magic and getting them fitted or having to reject the car. It's such a shame as the rest of it is great but I know my other half will not be able to park the thing without the sensors. I still can't believe they can't be retro fitted. The Columbus system must have a plug/socket in the back to fit the sensors? Surely these systems are plug and play and not bespoke to each individual order?

The problem is that Skoda don't supply a kit to add front sensors.

It's is possible to add front sensors but would involve the dealership creating a custom wiring loom and replacing the existing park assist module.

Even 3rd party supplies aren't making kits for the Kodiaq yet. They do similar kits for the MQB Superb and Octavia but they might not be suitable.
