Forge FMIC

Featured Replies

Has anyone else tried to fit the front towing hook with the Forge FMIC fitted, mine won't fit.

Looked at mine, with my Allard FMIC, and am certain I'm in the same boat. :)

Not sure how I'd get around it, although if I snapped off one zip tie, I might be able to bend it down enough to squeeze in the tow eye above it, and the pipework rest against it from underneath.

Which pipe is it blocking for you? As mine has just the FMIC intake going down there, its that pipe stopping me, but from memory of Xav's FMIC install, there's two pipes go there, one for the intake, and the one going up to the engine inlet manifold, using the oem path.

So all the people who have FMIC can't get tow'd

On a serious note. How do you get round it?

good question, might investigate that next time the bumper comes off to see if we can find a way around it somehow :(

Well, if a car needs towing, as long as someone has a flat screwdriver, they can undo a couple of the jubilee clips and remove the offending blocking bit of pipework. Not like the car is going to be going anywhere. ;)

My thoughts exactly Jason.

Any sort of tow from a breakdown company would normally be on a Dolly and wouldn't use the hook.

Hmm true but it still puts me of the idea of a getting a fmic.

I'd look at how many Fabia vRS break down to the point of needing a tow. The only time I would perhaps consider it worrying is if I'm on track. A lot of these people say if you're towing eye is blocked off, they won't care and will attach it to your bumper. The rear towing eye is always available too of course. :)

But with Fabia TDI exceptional reliability, I wouldn't let difficult towing eye access put me off getting an FMIC fitted.

When the bumper is off i believe that you can fit the towing eye inbetween the two FMIC hoses , you may need to remove the hoses to fit in the first place, refit the hoses then you can leave your towing eye in at all times.

The fog light grille will fit back on over the tow eye.

The fmic pipework was actually re-designed so the towing eye would fit (it fits on mine)

altho theres alot of scope for pipe movement depending how you DIY installers installed it.

if its really bugging you take the bumper off and re-align the pipework, but its NOT a fault of Forge's

I think you are right Colin, I think it would fit on WW's.

We placed the pipes with more importance on not rubbing or vibrating during everyday use.

Thanks, I don't need a tow but needed to fit the eye, when i next take the bumper off to cut a Jason mouth out i'll seperate the two hoses with a spacer.

I was not having a go at you ( Colin) or Forge, i'll look again at the fitting instructions, sure they mentioned something.

I too understood that the pipework was re-jigged so the towing eye could be fitted. My only reason for wanting the towing eye is so it can go on the rolling road without falling off ;)

Look no towing eye required :P

So far I've not had to get towed, plus I much prefer the 'heated rear window to keep your hands warm' Skoda jokes
