DSG sport mode ( shift speed )

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm now looking for a new car which is Superb 4x4 280HP, but just wondering what is a difference between two accelerating videos.

On first DSG is on sport mode and for me it's like super fast:

On the second one it's also on sport mode but the difference is huge ( in sound and DSG speed ):

For me if I select sport mode it should work as on the first video. What is your experience? I'm wondering if driving mode selector is worth and if it's making dsg more aggressive like on video 1.?

In my car there is no difference in acceleration whether in Drive or Sports mode.  In Sports mode the car does not change up so readily in normal driving but if 'full bore' acceleration on maximum throttle is used then both modes hold the gears until max revs.

Is one video  using Launch mode and the other not?  I haven't bothered to actually watch the video.

I see both are without Launch mode. Both seams to have DSG in S mode but the difference in shifting speed is noticable. I was in dealership and he said that DSG is 'intelligent' and it will adjust to driver preferences. But stil, in sport mode it should shift faster/more aggressive.

It might be true if the programming of the DSG gearbox is based on fuzzy logic. From what I know fuzzy logic is used in auto industry.

If it is like that, I will give it some sporty driving... :D:D:D

Is one of them on a rolling road.

Guys, I'm just wondering about shift speed. I want to know if there is any difference in shift speed while you are driving more aggressive/sportier ( it's 'inteligent' and automaticly adjustable for driver preferences based on drive style ) or just when you switch to sport mode it will set DSG to be faster.

I would be gratefull for sharing your expirience :)

Although I have a diesel DSG rather than petrol, I am pretty sure the needle always moves quickly like the first vid whether it is in economy, normal/drive or sport mode. Will have a check on the way home tonight.

Big diference in tempratures, 9.5C on the top one and 27C below, could make a difference?

Temperature can and is making a difference.

Another ting is that the second car has approx. 3.000 km mileage, so almost new. I dont know what is the mileage on the first one, but I can remember that my VRS TDI was a little bit lazy until 10-15.000 km.

Seems pretty clear to me. The first one is without launch control and the second one is with launch control. Atleast my 190 TDI shift behaviour is different with and without LC. Normally the shifts with full throttle are fast but especially on the shift from 1st to 2nd gear you can feel a short pause in power delivery. With launch control the clutches are apparently allowed to slip more and engine torque is not reduced (at least not as much). This results in a shift which seems slower (and sounds different) but in reality you have constant strong pull through all shifts.

Second video is with launch control (you can see it revs up to 4k before car starts moving). Sound is pretty much the same (just difference in microphone ambient noise).

And no, DSG ain't "intelligent", it only has memory for 1-2 seconds, the rest of the shifting behavior only depends on the speed and depth you press the pedal. Mindboggling to see what nonsense some dealers try to sell people on.

Not just the dealers - BMW Regional Engineer told me the sat nav (£1000+ extra) in my 2013 car needed to learn my driving style before it would work correctly.  Producing an 87 mile route for a 22 mile route. The dealer's service manager said "That's just plain stupid".

Thats why I want to confirm it here before buying a car :)

You're probably right. I was test driving Cupra ST 300, on regular drive with full throttle, dsg was super fast. With launch control it's more 'lazy', that's because of better engine torque => acceleration.

Thanks guys.
