Here you go @Lord_Moppy. My set-up for talking to the J519 module off the car.   Hacked-about KKL cable with K-line (blue wire), 0V and 12V (red) connections broken out.

Thanks for the offer, I might take you up on that sometime.

The issues im having is mainly down to wanting to do it purely on a bench. If I had a Fabia parked in front of me I could plug the software in and away I go.

I'll get it sorted with a can gateway on the bench also, that should sort everything I hope.

No worries!!

I'd offer my Fabia for testing but its my daily and I can't really risk bricking my dash :D

Are you aiming to just get the illumination or the "staging" feature as well? Because I could probably get staging to work even if it wasn't supported but it'd involve flashing the ECU rather the dash.

Keep up the Good Work!

  • Author

Haha I wouldn't dream of doing what I plan on somebody's car.

I really only plan on illumination, I don't think I could get staging to work without adding extra hardware /motors / power supply.

As far as I know it's not possible on similar dashes Iike mk4 golf etc either, the size of memory needed is different with different hex coding fields

I'll have a look into adding staging over the next few weeks then. It should be possible by writing a bit of assembly in the ECU start up procedure that just maxes the dials and then drops them again.

One of the guys over at Nefmoto / ECU connections  already found registers that control the Tacho so it shouldn't be that hard to find how to control the speedo too.

I'll do a thread on here if I work it out but it wouldn't exactly be a DIY mod lol

Sure, we can talk more tomorrow.

is it just Skoda or any VAG, wiring diagrams arnt always very good when I compare them to pinouts so interested to hear your view on that.

Unfortunately you have to spend your 7 euros + VAT on each of the erWin sites separately, I'm pretty sure, even though the same login gets you into Skoda, Seat, or VW (not tried Audi). At the end of each current flow diagram document, there are pinout diagrams just like the workshop manuals one you linked to, so you don't need to plough through all the wiring diagrams to work it out.  I've described the basic procedure for getting to the pdfs and downloading them here.

Sounds good, keep me informed then, I've never seen a Fabia with staging yet, so will be a nice touch to add.

Sounds like they've made great progress already then, that's half the battle understanding what all of the coding means and what does what.

Will do.

Yeah the thread's adding rolling launch control and getting the tacho to show boost but's got load of info about how ECU and dash talk and how to disable checksum verification etc. All very useful

  • Author

Where can I find this thread if you have a link?

@hutchysrs50 I can't find the launch control thread right now and it's only ECU connections so you'd need an account to view it anyway. But this is a thread by the same person on Nefmoto that shows how to disable checksum which you need to do to add launch control/staging anyway. You could probably work out how to correct the checksum for the IROM but it's much easier to just bypass the code that checks it :D

I'll see if I can find the other thread tomorrow if I remember.

Thanks, I think i'll sign up to that forum also, lots of useful information posted and pinned so definitely worth me looking in to.

Im still fairly new to everything so everyday is definitely a school day, I've got a few ECUs I want to bench test and unlock (EDC17) using the bdm method but have put all that to one side for now working 90% of my time on clusters.

Yeah definitely.

I'm more into EDC15's and recovering them and I've just started to get into reverse engineering them. Only thing I'd say about Nefmoto is some of the information is a bit all over the place but you can find it with a bit of searching.

  • Author

I havnt done much with EDC15s.

I've wrote a few remap files for them and the usual EGR delete and adding launch control.

I must look into IMMO delete on the ecu, it's somthing I'll need at some point.

Small update, tried linking up the body control module to the clocks and then scanning them but still didn't work.

i also tried talking to just the BCM first and that didn't work either so I'm clearly doing somthing very wrong

Guessing you've used the stock harness between the cluster the BCM and connected the Kline of the BCM to your tool?

  • Author

Just a harness I've made.

Connected the can H & L from

tbe BCM to the clocks and to the OBD. Connected the K line from BCM to the OBD and scanned, nothing

Here is what I've got so far...

So ive wired up drive can wires, convenience can wires, can wake up wire and K-line wire.

Results = no communication so exactly the same

Well... today after about 2 weeks of trial and error I had success, I've actually ran out of my testing wires  and crocodile clips but it worked!

Now it's time to go back to the original plan of lit needles :D

Video of how I wired it up here:

Quality is in HD also.

Good work, glad you manage to work it out!

I'm still looking into adding "staging" by writing some custom code into the ECU. However, progress has been quite slow because a lot of threads relating to EDC15 reverse engineering are very old and a lot of the information needed it spread out across many forums so it's a bit tedious.

But from what I've managed to work out so far it looks like it should be possible! :)

  • Author

That's great news, my progress has been slow also, spent so long trying to sort this my workshop came to a stand still so have a backlog!

I "bricked" one cluster editing it though.

The time and displays both died on me and was left with that, even after a full reset back to standard programming :D

  • Author

Well now im more sure than ever, after some extra coding (lots of it) the mk4 golf can have lit needles & needle sweep. Apologise about only having two needles, only changed one pair of LEDs to blue

Hi there :hi:

I know it's an older thread, but I didn't find anything like this on my search. Does anyone still have some information about this Fabia cluster on desk project (wiring diagram)?

  • Sponsor

Might be worth alerting @hutchysrs50 like I just did there.

I seem to remember it was mainly about making sure all the relevant 12V and 0V feeds to the J519 Central Electrics unit were wired up, as well as the obvious ones to the clocks, and various data lines.  I've got a (J519) unit at home that I managed to get to talk to VCDS without anything else connected, so could look at what I did there with the wiring, later.

He could probably clarify the situation regarding immobiliser whilst on the site, in this thread? Service messages refuse to reset. - Skoda Fabia Mk I - BRISKODA

Would be appreciated. :)

@Wino

Thx for reply

Some days passed now and no answer. I looked @hutchysrs50profile and see that he was last online 3 months ago.

I see that I forgot to check the wiring I made up for my J519.  Day off tomorrow so I'll see what I can find.
