What to spec on a VRS estate

Featured Replies

Just in the process of choosing the options.

 230 tsi dsg

 Quartz Metallic

 Heated screen and nozzles

 Heated seats

 Black pack and rails

 Spare wheel

 Extended Warrantee.

 Service pack

I am suprised that there is not  a leather seats option

 Anything that i am missing?

Welcome to the forum!

The Canton Sound System option is well-worthwhile ime. I also love the keyless entry & start system and the powered boot, (we have an estate,) but they're both far from essential.

The demo I drove had the Canton and pani roof.  Not fussed on the roof but the stereo sounded good.

Shame the demo was sold. I would have had it.

 It had the 19's too.

Canton for sure, it sounds great and I love mine. For the relatively  small outlay and the negative comments I see on here regarding the standard sound system, it's definitely one to have. KESSY is also nice as you can leave your key in your pocket all the time.

You've already ticked heated screen, nozzles and seats (winter pack?) which are all fantastic in winter.

The only other two I'd consider adding are Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) - effectively variable dampers, and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). As you have specced DSG it will slow the car down to a stop in traffic and speed up again.

Your options seem good. If it doesn't have folding auto-dimming door mirrors as standard, then they are a great option and not too expensive, stop glare on motorways and squeeze through awkward gaps without having to worry about the mirrors.

DCC and Canton are the two things I desperately wished my Ex-demo had!

+1 for folding mirrors.  Very useful in tight car parks or, if like me, you need to park on the street.

Variable boot floor makes the loading area nice and level.

Would never buy a new car now without Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) .

To bad that the VAG-version is terrible... Both my 2013 Audi S7 and now my 2017 Octavia vRS felt like a huge leep down from the "distronic plus" I had on my 2010(!) Mercedes E63...

As far as other options go I personally did spec everything available when ordering mine and don't regret it a bit. Maybe i would skip the park-assist and the DCC if I had to order a new one today but that's about it. :)
Weird if the FL doesn't have a leather seat option BTW, in the Pre FL it was a part of the premium package along with rear-camera and other must-haves! :)

Folding mirrors are useful (more to stop other idiots damaging them when parked)

Not sure I would get a servicing pack, seems to be the bare minimum, fine for those on 2-3 years contract hire, but as you have specified the extended warranty, assume you are keeping it and a more extensive service is thus sensible.

Shame the leather seat option has been dropped, as much nicer to wipe clean.

One curved ball idea, if you are adding lots of options, compare the price to a Superb SE-L, as superb gets some items as standard and can be cheaper than a spec'd up Octavia.  I doubt you will notice much difference between 220 and 230 engine

A lot of people have had issues with the powered boot lid, needing replacement struts as they leaked. Not sure that has been properly resolved yet.

I like ACC on my manual, but I can see really coming into its own with a DSG.

Also if you are looking at a vrs spec, High Beam Assistant and Cornering fogs should be able to be enabled by visiting a friendly person with VCDS.

On a similar note I ended up ordering a 245 VRS because it has some items that I wanted (electric seats. folding mirrors, black pack, alcantara) as standard that are cost options on the 230.

Hmmm. but it won't handle like a vRS will it?

It might be worth checking a car that has the heated windscreen before your order the car. It is absolutely great on a frosty winter morning or when driving through a snowstorm at speed, but every other day of the year (if you notice it) it will reduce visibility and cause glare. The thing is not everyone notices it, I have had people alongside me in the car who could not be bothered by it. I on the other hand can't help but notice a sort of foggy vision. It is an individual response so worth checking what works best for you.

You must have fantastic contact lenses to see a sort of foggy vision..... it really isn't noticeable for 95% of the time. I do appreciate it 100% of the time when it's frosty and I am not scraping the windscreen.

This is my experience also. I never notice the elements whilst driving, even in direct sunlight. I did at first but I think my eyes have got used to it now and just see past them.

The benefits definitely outweigh the negatives when it comes to Heated Windscreens!

:) I do indeed wear glasses and I admit there are few if any of my friends that notice the same thing. I thought I should share it though...

Also consider the delivery times being quoted recently in other posts on here. Certain options might make it even worse.

I think the biggest delay causer currently is a TSI engine

Adaptive Cruise is a game-changer for relaxed motorway driving with DSG.

Dynamic Chassis does take edge of hard bumps and I'm pleased with it, but not sure how it compares with standard suspension.

Standard sound system in the MK3 facelift is fine - far better than MK2 Bolero. Does lack a little punch from lower frequencies, but well balanced.

Folding mirrors are standard - the paid option gives you auto dimming, which is great but not essential.

Luggage/dog guard net is handy in estate, if you plan on fully loading up the car with luggage or dogs. Similar cost to 3rd party solutions and fits well.
