Headlight issues

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I´m having a issue with my Superb 2009 Estate were I have an AFS fault. The workshop told me that there were no communication with the control unit, and said they´re were unsure if it was just the control unit or the wiring within the headlight itself that have malfunctioned. Replacing the whole headlight with the units, both the ballast and the control unit would be about $1200.

I´m wondering if there are any possibilities that i can buy the control unit by itself somewhere to see if that can fix this...? To a much lesser cost.

You'd have to dismantle it and read part numbers then use Google to find replacement.

Or use VCDS to read all this info.

Yes the AFS control unit is separate and plugs into the bottom of the headlight housing.

I had the big rubber cap go missing (possibly after a service) which let water into my headlight which caused the AFS system to fail.  I replaced that control module and got a new cap (both from ebay) and the problem was solved.

Be aware that changing the control unit, requires (according to the instructions) to remove the headlight assembly, which requires you to remove the front bumper, which requires you to remove the front wheelhouse liners.

In actuality, for the left-side unit that I replaced, it's possible  to pop out the fog light and unscrew the under body tray and simply reach up through there.  I'm not sure that would be possible on the right-side as the washer tank is probably in the way.

I made a post here on the subject:

Thanks wokwon!

I managed to buy a replacement part from the lokal salvage yard. Will try to replace later on!

I'm missing one of those rubber covers too.  Can you remember the place you bought it from on eBay  I can't find one  thanks

Update: Replaced the AFS unit without taking off the bumper. No stress at all. Plug and play and everything works :)

Hi Joe,

Sorry that seller has now disappeared. I just searched for the part number, you may wish to try the same.
