Automatic Tail Gate Closure

Featured Replies

Hi

I have  a Skoda Superb Estate and the tail gate continues to close even if there is an obstruction such as my hand or even head in the way.   I am concerned it will close on my Granddaughter.  It has been back to the garage twice now and still is the same.  Doe anyone else have this

Thanks

A fair amount of resistance is required to halt the doors progress. I think its too much myself.

If you're really concerned I would put it in writing to the dealer and also to Skoda UK.

A few weeks ago I was at the Goodwood festival of speed where they have a large car show. I went round many stands testing the electronic boot lids. The Audi required the lightest pressure to stop it - all the rest were similar to the Skoda - including Rolls Royce !!

My guage was can I stop it with 1 fingure - answer only the Audi - rest no.

Hi  I cant even stop it with one hand, I have to use 2.  Not good when you have a curious 2 year old granddaughter!!

Well, I'm able to stop it using one hand, it depends where you are trying to stop it ...but anyway, probably something you would like to look at (although it's Tesla) - I mean, Skoda is not alone with this concern :

The silly thing is the system in the Mk2 that I had was great.. Slightest bit of resistance and it stopped.

The Mk3 is just idiotic at best.. I assume it's either a different supplier or just cost cutting measure...

However I do like the way I can now close it with the key fob.. Maybe this is the reason for the change but I highly doubt it..

Me neither - I thought I'd give it a test earlier and the result was frankly frightening.

At about halfway down there was no way one hand was going to stop it - I had to basically fight to stop it with two hands.

I love the electronic tailgate, but I can't believe they get away with it as it is!

I find it very strange that they (Skoda) think it ok to have a tail gate that takes a great force to stop it - but it can still be key operated to close and yet they disable the auto / key operated shutting of the sunroof - I'm guess in for saftey reasons. I would have thought there was far greater possibility of someone getting injured by a closing boot (especially with the foot operated closure system) than there is of getting caught in the sun roof.

Would the "stop resistance" be adjustable via VCDs I wonder ?

I have disabled the kick feature to reduce the risk but still not happy!!

What Skoda should do is allow people to disable just the closing part. Opening is fine. Puzzles the mind why they don't put this in the settings.
