Yey so after a few years of being sensible I can come back and get a new vrs ... only problem I don't like the dark alloys so thinking of going for the silver 19" .. question when I had me first mk2 vrs and had 18" I got told it wud be a harder ride ... even though I didn't no any difference as never drove with 17" .. is this the same with 19" ..

I've spec'd DCC because of 19" worries, but still awaiting delivery.

I can say that I currently have an O2 VRS on 18s but I also have 17" winter wheels and whilst the ride is better on the 17s the difference is fairly marginal.

Can you go for silver 18s as a no cost option?

Silver Gemini's is a no cost option but, you have to spec them as the default is grey

Riding with 19's on looks better (IMHO), as they fill the arches on the car (even more so with the drop from an Eibach Pro-kit) but in terms of the ride, with stock suspension, it is probably firmer with 19s than 18s - just in terms of the relative tyre diameters.

If you go for 19s, I would try to spec 235/45 R19s (not the 235/35 Pirelli P-Zeros, as are my originals), so you get increased side-wall comfort.

225/35/19 was the Standard size, when my 19's need new tyres I'm going for 235/35/19.

If you go to 235/45/19 there is an 8.44% difference over the OE size, so not recommended.

Or - ^ what he said ;)

I went from 17s to 19s and lowered on Eibach...

I think the Eibach made the car more comfortable and I don't ever think of the ride as "hard" on the 19s.

To be honest, you cannot tell the difference, unless on extreme situations.

Why don't you go test drive a car with 19s or ask a member near to you to take you for a ride?

But I am also on the camp that will change tire size from 225/35/19 to 235/35/19 when the time to change comes...

Same as above, I'm on Eibachs with the 19s. The ride quality is perfectly acceptable - I find it much better than the original springs, plus it feels a lot more controlled around corners.

Just changed an axle to 235/35/19 and there's noticeably more rim protection ... The new tyres have gone on the rear so I can wear out these rubbish Pirellis. 4mm left, so only 2mm or so to go!
