Vertical nets to separate the load space from the cabin?

Featured Replies

I've just replaced my Volvo V70 with a Mk2 Superb Estate. The V70 had vertical nets that separated the rear load space from the cabin. Their utility is that when you load the rear space up for a big family holiday and pack the car higher than the rear valance, the nets stop anything from flying forwar (and becoming a potential missile) in the event of a crash or emergency stop. In the Volvo they replaced the sliding parcel shelf so you could only use one or the other, which was never a problem.

Can you get these for the Superb Estate? I've had one after market parts dealer say they don't exist and that the next best thing would be a dog guard, which seems a little excessive.

I used a dog guard in my toyota for this purpose - a net isn't really going to stop heavy objects at speed.

I checked into this when I bought my car. I had seen it as an option online and wanted it. When I asked the dealer about it, they made some calls and the answer was that it was not available to Ireland or the UK and would not be supplied for those markets.

I ended up with the OEM Skoda steel dog guard - which was fine as I have three good sized dogs. It may be a bit excessive for light loads when you want to stop cabin intrusion - but it will certainly do that job too.  The luggage cover still works when fitted as well.

There probably needs to be some parts on the roof panel for the vertical net to latch on to as well, I imagine?

Yes you are right, my bad.... and you'll need the attachment brackets (x2) for the back of the rear seat. It won't be cheap, so perhaps you can get a second hand one from a wreckers/breaker?

There are no fitments in the estate  roof as standard which is a bit of a poor show, my mondeo has 2 pairs as standard
