Internet access

Featured Replies

Hiya,

Can anyone tell me why I cannot access the Internet on my Android phone when in my car and if there is a way to sort this?

If you're connected in rSAP mode it effectively removes the SIM card from your phone and connects it to the GSM tranceiver in the car. If you want to continue to use SIM-based functions on your handset you'll need to change to Hands-free mode in the bluetooth configuration menu in the Maxidot.

Hi Chimeara,  thanks for the advice.  Does this mean I would lose the phonebook facility on the RNS510?

No - it works either way. In HFP mode it syncs with the phonebook on your handset.

Magic, thanks pal

If you still want to use rSap (premium) mode, activate wifi in your car via Maxidot and connect your phone to that network. Will get inet back.

Not sure as I'll have this on my rns510 as the car is Nov 2008 model, but will check thanks

Unless the phone module has been changed  (to A specific  or later) I think k you will only have rsap, my car is Sept 2008 and I couldn't connect my iPhone as it won't work in rsap mode, had to change module

Thinking of getting newer head unit so will see if that helps....

The headunit won't make any difference unless it has BT built in and you remove the existing BT module.

It's easier to swap the BT module for one that supports either HFP or rSAP + WiFI hotspot :)

Thanks mate, but not too technically minded so wouldn't know how to do that....

It's pretty straightforward: find bluetooth module under driver's seat, unplug it and plug in the new one.

Hi Chimaera, had a very quick look on Google and found a comoatible rSAP  BT module with WiFi Hotspots - it was €279 . Probably got what you're saying wrong.....

You are looking for part number 3c8 035 730 A (or a higher letter suffix) not the one without an alpha suffix.

I might be wrong but I THINK it has to be D or E to guarantee full functionality. I had one of the earlier ones which DIDN'T connect to a modem smartphone and then a D version which DID. They are phenomenally expensive now - when I bought my D version 2 or 3 years ago I paid c. £90; I sold it a month ago for £245...

I think you are right, I think I was answering a different question.  You need A or later to allow non rsap phones to connect, D or later to aiiow wifi

Found this on eBay: -

Lots of wiring harness, which will put me off - unless it's as easy as previously stated where it is just a plug and play type replacement??

I'm not sure that kit will suit the Superb - the part number starts with 1K instead of 3C - others may know better.

As far as the harness goes, kits with a wiring harness included are specifically for fitting to cars that don't already have a bluetooth module installed. In your case, you just need to buy the module on its own.

It wasn't so much the wifi - the earlier versions would not connect via Bluetooth to any modern phone; I only got Bluetooth integration by upgrading to D.

I have a "C" and it connects to all decent modern phones.. ( no wifi)

There was a problem at one time with a certain 'fashion' brand that I believe wouldn't pay for some kind of Bluetooth license owned by nokia so they opted for their own Bluetooth system that caused incompatibility problems. Then wanted everyone else to pay them for their system no doubt! lol

Amazing they are now probably  the most popular smartphone.

I have an A revision module and it connects to my Galaxy S6 no problem in either rSAP or HfP modes.

All good, then.  I must have had a pre-A version originally...

Just to say thanks for the replys to the original question as I have searched high and low on google and just found time to log in here and bam there is the answer!

I thought at first my S8+ was playing up and at one point used wife's mobile to tether and use her signal while mine was on wifi.

So when get to the car this morning shall play around and see if this works though did not see how to switch on wifi via the maxidot. (2013 Superb)
