Superb sportline 2.0 TSI 230 spec

Featured Replies

Im in the verge of ordering a Octavia vrs 245 but my head has been turned by the superb sportline estate with the 230 bhp TSI engine(with dsg)

Despite searching through the threads however,I can find very little information on here, esp from owners.

Does anyone own one on here and what are your thoughts?

I drive a standard  superb 2.0tdi 190 4x4 at work which is a pretty good car but the suspension is way too floaty for me and the combination of the 4x4 and diesel engine strangles the performance for me,hence my looking at the fwd TSI instead.

Depends on what you are after

They are a 220 TSi (not 230)

The sportline has nicer seats but loses out on spec (compared to the L&K) but they do gain a few ‘styling’ touches.

Go for the DCC and the suspension will feel fine.

They all suffer with throttle pedal lag, but this can be overcome by fitting a pedal box for less than £200.

Sorry,yes,220 not 230.

I much prefer the looks of the sportline over the l&k which is why I'm looking at the vrs 245 too.

Anyone driven a superb with that engine?.....I'm hoping that the weight of the superb won't bog it down too much?

I drive the Sportline 220ps with the automatic transmission. Plenty of power. It floats if you want, or sport mode stiffens the suspension. It sits 10mm lower than the other models. If you have a lead foot, you might prefer the four wheel drive, but that's only available with the 280ps engine. On mine, the front can break away if you don't feed in the throttle. I used to ride motorcycles and appreciate the 220's passing power.

What do you mean pedal lag? There's no lag in S mode. Maybe you should call it "D mode lag" ...

Also what's the point in getting a Superb if you're not gonna get the 280? You should get the 245 vrs and not waste your money on a big lump of a car with less power.

Avoid the DCC unless you like sitting in a boat. It's terribly soft. Terrible roll.

there is no such feeling as "less power" with the 220 - it is plenty sufficient, and more, for the Superb.
i've test driven both the 220 and the 280.

if i wanted all wheel drive - sure 280.

but with the bum-dyno, there is not much difference between the 220 and 280.

i would highly recommend DCC.  i've customed my Individual Mode settings.  between Sport, Normal and Individual, i have the best of all worlds.

for me the Superb is a cruiser.

if u want something sporty that u can cruise around in - Superb

if u want something sporty that u can throw around - Octavia

that being the case - the throttle lag, which i hardly notice, is not an issue for me.

The ECU software has been written to help with EU6 regulations, which is why the throttle pedal has lag... in D and S,

you are either one of the few people who genuinly has a car with no lag (search any VAG forum and there are loads complaining about it, VW Audi Seat and Škoda) or you don’t know what it is.

Really??  :dull:

Lots of things determine what is the right spec car:

for someone who does 20K miles PA and pays for the fuel themselves, then diesel is the sensible choice.

Why shouldn’t someone who does starship mileage do it in luxury? for them economy is key so the 1.6 TDi may be perfect for them.

Not everyone wants or even needs 4x4 let alone 280 ponies pulling them along.

Now I think you are either just trolling or clearly have no idea... there is a BIG difference between Comfort and Sport, yes on Comfort there is a lot of body roll, but in the Sport setting that is completely eliminated, certainly not a wasted of money IMO

Have you driven a car with the sport suspension (and progressive steering)?

And about the lag, there's lack of evidence. All I can see from my perspective is few people simply promoting gimmicky pedal enhancers.

Regards lag  ... it exists, some people notice it more than others, and different engines benefit different amounts.

I never felt the need for one in my 220 Octy 3 vRS DSG, but the kodiaq felt a little lacklustre stock, much more responsive with a pedal box.

I have test driven a 220 DSG Superb, felt every bit as quick as my  Octy 3 vRS Tsi DSG was. TBH I think the 2.0 Tsi is a fantastic engine.

Both Superbs I test drove were Sportlines (220 and 280) and I found the suspension to be not as harsh as the vRS, firm but not at all uncomfortable.

I liked  the comfort mode on DCC on the Kodiaq, but from what I hear that's not as soft as comfort on a DCC equipped Superb.

I would say if you don't want the haldex awd the 220 Tsi Superb is plenty. If you find standard S3 suspension floaty, go for a sportline or DCC.

We all have differing perception's get yourself some test drives in demos to see what suits ;)

I drive the sportline 280, didn't notice a lag.

Must have the DCC, normal mode is soft. Sport mode better.

It is not a sport's car, big comfortable cruiser that can put serious speed and acceleration.
