should be.... I think its on its original spark plugs and coil packs... spark plug service is 79kish and we are on about 71k.... computer will tell my mech what cylinder it is, and I'm sure he will sort it.... on the forums there are cases of these engines having melting coil packs, so a replacement would fix it.... doubt its anything serious, deffo just no spark in one cylinder...

Hope it's a quick easy fix then.

But really, glad it's a quick and easy fix. Coil packs,, rings a bell for another marque having had issues too... mind you at least it's not a dizzy cap, motoring is just too easy now.

seems the car needs a new coolant temperature sensor.... my mech has one, but doesn't know where to fit it!! anyone know of any diagrams showing where it is on the V6 engine?! :(

yay! its back and its working! three plugs changed, and coolant sensor... other three were not, as they would have to remove the manifold to get to them and they couldn't buy a gasket, I will have to source one... (parts place even sent wrong plugs to start with!) Advised by mech to replace some of the coil packs, apparently some have recently been done, and some are old, they said the old ones should be replaced, as they will fail if some already have! also advised to change the plug on the coolant sensor, as its a bit knackered sitting on top of the manifold... (and people wonder why Alfas set on fire!) thats the next service, oil , plugs manifold gasket, and coil packs... then she should be good for another 70k! 

the misfire is still there.... has been to autolusso for a full sparkplug service, but is still misfiring... I have changed the  offending coil pack, and its still buggered... injector cleaner is the next last hope before it has to go in for what will be life changing financial work I'm sure :(

 

getting excited, I think a (tm) Vortex exhaust system may be in the pipeline. (march) .... could see 286bhp!  if this ends up being faster than my octy, what do I do ?! lol...

next disaster... window has broken (down) nightmare :( going to autolusso for a week on saturday.... FIX misfire, FIX broken window mech, possible replace front bushes with poly bushes to preserve its appetite for front tyres :( IF the credit card can handle it :(

Sorry to read of the grief with the Alfa, I was so close to buying one instead of the C30, lucky escape imo. The latest Alfa M3 beater is such a weapon, hope it has the reliability for Alfa’s sake.

yeah its better than the M3 it handles just as well, but has a much better engine, the Ferrari engine it uses is awesome!

 

to be fair, apparently the windows almost never break, and we have done many thousands of miles in it since we bought it, including a trip to (and around!) the ring.... so it hasn't done too bad.... when its working and finished, its awesome... looks and feels like a new car, its a £35k coupe for £6k ...when we sort the exhaust it could knock on the door of 290bhp too!  Just gets me down when my poor old octy is doing all the work for the two of us, and this is sat on the drive with plastic taped all over it :(  ...

 

anyway, its in next week to get everything sorted (at an alfa specialist!) ... and also, you don't really buy them with your head, but your heart  its part of the experiance I guess!

the Brera is back, no misfire, polybushed front arms, nice shiny window that works, all good, just in time for the cold weather! just need to do the subframe now, and the rear springs, then we will be ok! lol..

 

What’s up with the subframe?

they have a habit of rusting... mine is ok but crusty. so needs wire brushing down and treating properly for longevity  will get it done before next winter....

we've had a fair bit of snow today, I have discovered something awesome about the Brera... it power slides on demand, and is easily controllable, progressive, and throttle adjustable.... wow have I been having fun

Get some Bilt Hamber products to sort that - they work wonders for old Mazdas as well

Yep, start with Hydrate 80. Amazing stuff 

 

I've tended to deal direct with BH and they're really good answering process or product questions as well. As you'll want something for the protection stage, once the Hydrate 80 has done its stuff. Dynax S50 will probably work well on the Alfa's subframe; it's what I've used on the Eunos.

noticed a vibration yesterday... going down south on thursday, so took it in to get the tyres re balanced, they said I have a much bigger problem... they jacked it up, and touched the nearside wheel with their finger, it wobbled.... unsafe, so straight to my tame mech... collapsed wheel bearing! being fixed now, will be back by the end of the day .... gotta love Alfas....

its back, and all is well , Phew.... local parts place had a hub in stock too! non genuine, but its good enough for now!
