My brand new 32GB card wasn't recognised by my computer, so I've thrown two 64GB ones in this morning. Both of which work without issue.

Don't forget you'll have to remove one when/if your navigation SD card turns up. :dull:

The update website supposedly had step by step instructions for updating the maps, but didn't mention formatting the card.

I'm a bit worried about formatting it, as if the new update doesn't work, will I be able to copy the backed-up data onto the formatted card?

Yes. There's a security 'bit' set the first time the card is used in your SatNav. It's a little-used function of the S in SD - Secure Digital. Once it's been set that card can only be used in your Amundsen. The security bit is not removed when the card is reformatted. It's also why you should never buy a used mapping card unless you know for a fact the security bit has been reset.

If you encounter problems with the update you can simply copy the original data back to the card.

If you have a Mac computer the formatting is straight forward, just use Disk Utility. If you have a Windows computer the OS should reformat the card correctly. If you use a third-part utility you may be presented with additional options such as cluster and sector size. This is intended for fine tuning the format and probably best left alone unless you know what you're doing.

If you do a search on SD Card in the ICE or Octavia forums you'll find no end of information on the common "the map card that came with my car isn't big enough for the update" complaint.

Thanks, I'll give it a whirl.

I've never noticed traffic in Apple maps on Carplay - am I missing something?

not used the apple car play before, assumed it did the same as android, sorry.

I don't think it does (happy if anyone can confirm otherwise) - it's always seemed very basic to me. Oh for TomTom on Carplay!

Got sd card with my SE technology bought in March this year. Haven't checked for updates yet. Use android auto with the phone = my phone music and up to date maps... No idea why people don't use Android auto or apple car play... Up to date maps, traffic, much much better integration and voice control..

Just completed a couple of trips totalling 500 miles. Android Auto caned off the whole of my monthly data allowance. Think it was mostly through playing music that should have been stored on my phone!

now seriously considering reverting to BT link to car and putting all music onto SD

Have sim only deal with three,£21 a month unlimited data. Would recommend
