Cruise Control

Featured Replies

My farther in law has just ordered a pre owned Superb Elegance tdi auto, at what speed can he start to use cruse control, IE can it be set as low as 30 mph or does the gearbox have to be in top over a certain speed. as it is tiptronic if he was in say 3rd gear at 35 would it work.

Thanks

IIRC the lowest is about 30mph, can be set in any gear. Using the foot brake will cancel the cruise.

It works from 20 in my car, so around there should be ok.

One good thing about it is, when your going down a steep hill it maintains the speed (something my previous Toledo didnt do)

It doesn't on my Octavia 4X4 either. The car will gather speed, just as it would on a trailing throttle with cruise disengaged.

Correct.

The Superb does indeed attempt to maintain the set speed up or down hill. The attempted speed holding can be felt if the hill is steep enough. However some speed creep will be had on too steep a hill.

It is in the book of words too.

The oil burner's engine will probably have a greater braking effect than the 1.8T

No, the car mechanically brakes to slow the speed. It's not left to engine braking.

Using the foot brake will cancel the cruise.

my superb elegance is the 2.8 V6 with an 03 plate. The cruise is brilliant and can be cancelled by braking (as mentioned); by a quick tap on the gas pedal or by cancelling using the control button on the steering wheel.

Word of caution (from alarming experiences before getting used to it:eek: ) when setting the speed using the other button control on the steering wheel, nothing much happens for a second or two if you are trying to increase to your speed of choice. The temptation is to put your foot on the gas but as you do that the button begins to take affect and you're suddenly in danger of taking off as the g forces press you back into the seat. Sod's law states this will only happen as you pass a speed camera!!

Enjoy

Also any action on the clutch pedal cancels the CC.

Just pointing out for those with manuals..

My 52 plate 2.8 doesn't cancel cruise when the gas is pressed, it lets you push past something to overtake, then drops down to the chosen speed. Brake or clutch cancel it.

Thats how it should be.

Absolutely right. Apologies, I should have qualified my earlier post. If you exceed your pre-set limit by around 5 mph or more, the selected speed will be lost if you continue to travel at the higher speed for more than a couple of minutes. It took me quite a few journeys to find that one out! Perhaps I should have read page 121 of the handbook - but the illustrations don't match what's in the car!

The minimum speed to activate it is 30kmph which is 16.64mph

Cheers,

JB
