Hot off the Motortrade Grapevine

This may sound ludicrous but I heard today from a very good source close to SkodaUK that Mazda are planning on buying the Skoda brand from VAG!:surprised ...within the next couple of months!....thought I'd share with my fellow Briskodians:)

Don't Ford own Mazda?

Not heard that one before - I shall ask my colleagues on the "inside" ;)

Personally I think its a tall story

EDIT: Ford have a very large stake in Mazda.

yep thats what i thought but apparently its all aboveboard;)

yep ford are to mazda what vw/audi are to skoda

mmm may have rx8 style suicide doors on the next fabia!:orb_cool:

Well i work at a Skoda/Mazda dealer and have heard nothing of the sort from either camp.

I'd be suprised if Mazda had the finances to do it tbh, they arent a massively profitable company. If it handt been for the MX-5 the rotary engine would have killed them years ago.

I know the doors you mean, but why are they called suicide doors? Never heard that term before.

Suicide doors are automobile doors that are hinged on the edges closer to the back of the vehicle. The name refers to the danger of such a door being hit by another vehicle while parked at the curb, which would be catastrophic if a passenger happened to be entering or exiting the car at the time (although some erroneously claim it refers to an increased danger of the door falling open while at speed).

Skoda/Mazda. What will they call the new company? Modza? Skadza?

Seriously. I'm not bothered as long as the product is good.

If they did buy it I doubt they would merge anyhow.

Skodzilla, presumably? :D

(Or Skodzirra for the less politically correct among us! ;) )

I doubt that VAG would sell Skoda - imagine all that current technology going outside the group - NEVER

It's quite common to see Mazda/Skoda dealers, and maybe they might look at some kind of tie-in - but buy-out -- I doubt it,

Ford are losing money hand over fist right now, if anything, l guess they would be looking to sell ather than buy right now

If it handt been for the MX-5 the rotary engine would have killed them years ago.

I think you mean the RX-7 & RX-8.the MX-5 uses a conventional motor.....;)

[/PEDANT MODE]

No, I think he means MX5 ;) Just needs a comma after "MX-5" then perhaps you'll see what he means :D

Had a chat with a "man in the know" at land Rover just now (remember Ford own them too) he said "haha no chance, mate. They've not got the cash to do something like that"

Maybe it's Skoda who are buying Mazda from Uncle Henry?.......

I like Mazda.Doesn't seem possible though.Skoda Roadster rhymes well though.

Thought it is Vauxhall that is nearly bankrupt?

so could we end up with a new rear engine skud?

one with the rotary perhaps ?

Ford have been loosing money hand over fist for the last few years, mainly in the states where the likes of Subaru etc. have caught uncle Henry napping.

Vauxhall have been on the rocky road for years too but GM will keep propping them up for years to come.

The Japanese, Koreans and Germans are the only ones who seem to be doing OK in the car industry at the mo. I emphasis the "OK" because they're not making megga bucks.

Perhaps VAG want to get back into ****el rotary engines and want Mazda's espertise? NSU - the only other people to really back rotary - was part of the VAG group after all.
