Buying a Leon ST Cupra 300 DSG - replacing Octavia vRS TDI 184 Manual

Featured Replies

Morning all

I've decided to go for the Leon ST Cupra!

I have narrowed my preferred colors down to either Midnight Black or Urban Silver - which should i go for?

I need to order the car asap so would be glad of your thoughts.

Cheers guys

Have you had a black car before?

If you can live with cleaning it every day or looking at a dusty car 5min after you've washed it then the black will probably look great. Also black scratches very easily.

If not I'd be tempted by the silver, it'll look better for longer.

But it's your car remember.

^^^ Seconded.

A black car can not only change your parking habits, it can break your heart.

Enjoy the new car what ever colour you go for.

^^^ Thirded - colour and sentiments.

Was taking a look at the ST recently and I had narrowed it down to White or Blue. Black seems to be a PITA if cleaning is not a daily habbit of yours as others said and silver is well, most indifferent colour in car history, was interesting back in 2000 I guess.

Are you going for the 4Drive version?

Mystery blue all the way (I think that’s what it’s called)

Clarkson gave the 300 DSG (estate) a very positive review in the Sunday Times yesterday - prefers it to the R.

Is it because they didn't "put quad exhausts on Moby-****" this time? :D   (silly Briskoda corrector I wasn't swearing!!!)

I have to agree though, the R ST looks wrong, whereas the Leon has a more natural, flowing shape.

He isn't a fan of the Leon's looks either but gave it four stars (out of five).

The rear section of the R estate certainly looks ungainly.

Ah Brian.

LOL I'll never understand some of George's jokes in this life...

Maybe it is just a British or Scottish thing about poking the fire.

Colleague has just got a dark metallic grey one that looks awesome - you mentioned black or silver, does it definitely have to be one of those 2?

George,

"Never mind the mantelpiece , when you are stoking the fire " I believe is the age old saying.

Think the aesthetics /ergonomics of the interior of the R (mk7.5) is more important to me, as that is where I'm focus for 95% of my ownership time and not gazing at it's arse. R much better place to be, at very little extra outlay if you shop around imo.

But then I'm biased.

7spd DSG is that little bit better also?

Is the Leon ST 300 , manual & or a 6spd DSG option?

Edited by vrskeith

Yes, Clarkson did say some cracking deals to be had on the R, plus residuals are obviously going to be better.

The Leon he drove was DSG - not sure re manual version.

It's definitely 'poking' up here ;-)

But in sentiment, is the interior of the Seat better these days? I have to admit it was one of the things that put me off them in the past.

Sorry it was an inappropriate post by me, obviously nobody cares in a romantic way about the size of the exhausts .

Really i meant i don't care what the exterior looks like if there is loads of go and it handles OK,

drinks just enough but not too much, and is not to fussy where we go or what the weather is like.

I think I read there's only two combos for the UK ST 300: Either 6-speed Manual FWD or 4Drive 6-speed DSG.  No new 7-speed DSG for SEAT yet.

PS. George you're Skodaless?? What about the red vRS?

Fun cars are no fun if you have no driving licence, and they are getting easy to lose with average speed cameras all over the place.

So just a boring dirty diesel with an arm rest for me these days, until i get an EV that needs gentle driving to travel any distance.

A little OT but the Hyundai i30N seems to be a pretty good hot hatch debut from Hyundai.  Some really positive reviews about.

I would like an over the top Hot Toyota Yaris GRMN, but will probably go for the Hybrid....
