Fabia Mk I 53 Plate - can the auto central locking be disabled?

Featured Replies

Hi all

First post here, and not likely to be my last as I have a few questions about my car and this forum looks fantastic!  I'll try to spread them out a bit though and do some reading first....

Anyhow, this is my first query.  If I unlock the car and first go to the boot, the car locks itself again a short time after.  A few years back, my partner did the classic manoeuvre of putting the keys down whilst loading the shopping, closing the boot, giving her forehead a DOH! slap, calling me, and then waiting three quarters of an hour while I drove the 20 miles to deliver her the spare key!  Needless to say, we've been careful about it since and it hasn't happened again.  But who knows, it might one day.  And we only have the one car now...

So I was wondering if it is possible to disable this auto locking feature (which to me seems a stupid idea and recipe for disaster), and if so how please?

Many thanks

Max

You will need to use, or find someone local with VCDS. This is a safety feature that can be activated to stop you leaving the car unlocked, think the standard timescale is 30 seconds before re-locking if the ignition is not switched on. There is a post in the VCDS section with a listing of people and their locations. May also be advising your general location as someone local may read this and offer to help. Also see post 3 in below for a little more background.

Great!  Thanks for the quick reply.  I've updated my profile with location (good thinking).  I'll check the VCDS section and see if anyone is local, or perhaps I'll strike it lucky and someone will see this.

If I do find someone with with VCDS, will it be an easy thing for them to do?

Thanks again

Its a fault with the car

my old fabia used to do this, unlock car, open boot and it would lock itself within 30 secs. What it should do is register that you've opened the boot and then not auto lock the car as is the case with my current car

Not entirely sure which part is at fault could be something that needs programming i don't know, but its definitely not normal for it to behave like that.

Gonna be one of the microswitches in the boot lock I guess.

Yes there are two of them in the boot lock - one for the boot light and one to tell the car that the boot lid is opened/closed. The lock unit is a doddle to remove once the tailgate trim and wiring plug are removed. Just three 13mm bolts.

OMG TMB that's awesome, mine does the same thing and it's been driving me mad, I thought it was an undocumented feature but now I can fix it.

^ Cool
