Saloon v Estate - Dog in boot?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Had my MK3 vRS for around 18 months now. I am still in love with it B)

However I have recently had an addition to the family, in the name of Poppy the Black Labrador.

I am just wondering if anybody here puts their dog in the boot when travelling anywhere and own an MK3 Saloon? The reason I ask is that I know Poppy will get quite big in the coming 12-18 months and I am debating whether I should get the MK3 facelift vRS estate, or stick with the Saloon.

Might be a daft question to some, but I am unsure what to do? The obvious choice is the estate, but are there MK3 owners out there getting by easily with the Saloon?

Thanks

Paul

I'd imagine that coupled with the load cover removed and a decent dog guard she'd have ample space.

I have an estate and it's great,  we bought it on the premise of a Leonberger but ended up with a Cavachon!

Another very mis-leading thread title, again not a thread about a good Saturday night out

Once again I hang my head in shame

@Auric Goldfinger - poor joke my friend, however possibly not a joke depending on where you live ;)

Thanks for the link to a previous thread. Looks like I could get away with the hatchback, saving me money which I am not flush in currently!

@courty - thanks for your reply too. Yes a decent dog guard will be bought for my current vRS. She is still small at only 14 weeks, however she will soon grow :)

I have a full grown black lab and I would say she would fit into the sedan but maybe not be able to stand up and move around, in my wagon she can stand up and move around to get comfortable

You're welcome!

My previous car was a 2011 Seat Ibiza, this had no problem accommodating my parent's fully grown English springer spaniel, as others have mentioned the hatch will suffice. Saves buying a new car!

If my Gran could put 2 Labs in her old Mini Clubman Estate, a massive Octy saloon would be luxury for one. And inless you have kids that object to dog drool, or a very badly behaved Lab (rare), the dog guard money can go on beer as well.

Wonderful choice of dog btw

For safety and keeping  your car interior in a clean state, then you can't beat and estate with a good quality dog cage installed.

The lower load lip of the Estate will be very welcome once your lab reaches full size (and weight)

The best cages out there include transk9 and safedog (crash protected)

I have the safedog xl...pic of it fitted to my Saab 93 sportwagon attached.

It's fitted with a divider which can be removed to allow a single dog more room or in place for two dogs.

I suppose that's one way to render your boot full to capacity!

If we would've got the leonberger we were after I wouldn't bother with a cage as I like to use my boot daily.

We've  currently got a small cage from pets at home,  our dog needs it as he's the size of a small teddy bear and would get tossed about the vastness of the estate's boot yet I get to keep half my boot space! Win!

vrs4011 - It looks like that cage is made to hold Werewolves:biggrin:.

I used a Mk2FL saloon with a Skoda dog-guard for transporting my old greyhound and she had plenty of room. Can't see that the Mk3 is any smaller in the boot department.
