New Headlamps

Featured Replies

Decided to treat the jalopy to a pair of new headlamps. Will have them fitted when the weather allows me.

Started to fade again. Can't be bothered to sand them down again. Hoping these new ones will last the life of the car.

Ah i see, did you keep them waxed? I use a UV resistant wax on mine which seems to be keeping them looking smart.

I’ve just listed mine in the for sale section :tongueout:

I regularly applied Meguiars headlight protectant but they are now fading - particularly the passenger side which gets a lot of sun on my driveway during the summer.

Bugger

UV wax- more details needed, as mine have for the first time had an advisory and it's time to start polishing off the problem, but I want to hold back the problem of UV .

I'm worried at what MOT man missed, as when changing the so called faulty droplink, we noticed one brake disc down to a few mm, and breaking up.

I can’t remember the name of the wax but it’s specially designed for plastic I think

as for your brake discs, if they were worn down to a few mm and braking up I would be very concerned and you wouldn’t have very effective brakes!!!

Done it. Have aligned the beams roughly to where the old ones were but will get it properly aligned soon.

Some handy videos here if anyone needs them. No need to remove the bumper to do the job.

Sorry but I've cut the sidelight bulb holders and headlight bulb plugs out of them with wires attached for spares.

Correction -should read pad, but I've long left leaving braking down to the last minute ,preferring to polish shoes. I've never rated the 1.4 brakes highly and tend to use other ways of getting speed down ( and never getting my self in a situation of emergency /hard braking) as I've noticed 1.4fronts tend to fade .

Will look out for that wax, after I try some TCUT ( for starters) on the lenses. Advisory was not affecting light output, but I'd like the lenses clearer, even though I seldom do much night driving theses days ( seldom do any night anything these days, but that's another tale :D)

Looks great. Will do same job soon, too- but thinking about version with black frame.

TYC or DEPO- still don't know. Both costs ~same in Latvia.

Am aligning them by myself- ruler, even ground, 10m from wall...

...because here in Latvia workshops usually aligns light bit' too low- to be 110% sure that client passes MOT.

As result, MOT is passed- but light on road is poor.

Aligners usually forget that light's fading spot is permissible abowe horizontal line of regloscope.

Yes I know what you mean. I haven't had them aligned yet as I can't decide where to take it as I don't trust most people in garages. Have to say that I aligned them to where the old ones were and it does seem fine though.
