Credit where it's due

Featured Replies

So the lassie at my local dealer, about whom I have been less than complimentary in the past (the dealer, not the lassie), called me yesterday to remind me that my car was booked in for a service & MoT today.  While on the call she mentioned that the car was due to get the emissions fix "unless you didn't want it done".  I was somewhat surprised to be offered the option up front, and said that I definitely didn't want it, and she was absolutely fine with that.

The message didn't seem to have reached the service manager overnight, as he mentioned the emissions fix again when I dropped the car off this morning.  But again, he was entirely happy for me to decline it, got me to sign the form saying so, and went to enter my refusal on Skoda's system.  He then found that there was already a record of me not wanting the it done, dating from April this year!  I think that must have been recorded when Skoda ran me up to ask if I was planning to get the fix done, and I said that as far as I was concerned there was nothing wrong with the car, so no.

Bottom line: declining the fix has turned out to be a lot less hassle than I feared it might.  I wonder if it's become so common by now that they know there's no point in arguing?

It does make me wonder whether Skoda or VAG are going to manage to meet whatever quotas they might have committed to in order to keep the authorities off their backs.

I’d be very surprised if anyone in the servicing section of a dealership would have it done to their own car.

I have read that If you live in Germany and decline it the car can not legally be used on the road. Similarly in America so the small percentage of refuseniks in U.K. probably won’t bother them.

Or they now want you to refuse as it gets them off the hook as it was offered to you, but they now know the true scale of failure repair work it leads to and are privately happy to not go ahead.

Could well be this.

Paul Willis VW CEO UK testified to the transport committee that 420,000 of 1.2 million vehicles with defeat devices had been dealt with and they were doing 20,000 a week,  so that rate must have dropped off or they have FIXED more vehicles than were affected, or his decimal point was in the wrong place.

I suspect that with the letters that started going out today stating the fix is " Voluntary " instead of the earlier implied "Compulsory" and having a box to tick saying you do not want it done by return is because they now know how much this is going to cost them in EGR and DPF parts etc. so will be pleased if as few as possible are done.

.....unless they cynically see it as a longer term profit opportunity.:crying:

VW Group UK will say,  'Overblown online' Only those with problems go to forums', No problems, after all the vehicles they owned (VW Group / Finance)

and which were those first given the Fix had no complaints made by 'Volkswagen' to Volkswagen.

A new type of letter is doing the rounds again from VW/Audi /seat  and Skoda for the free FIX/FAIL so they must have manufactured some more EGRs ready to fit

Yes just received this for my wifes Fabia 1.6tdi today and I have used the online option to say no.

Hopefully thats it and we won't be chased again.

Re letter in Sad555.  Just got mine.

Sending in back answered, with few NO, NO's written over it.

Plus words of, 'Not required in the UK'

Letter received.

Direct into recycling bin together with Skoda Used Car “Special Event” promotion that came too.

Sadly, I am no longer a fan of the VAG brand.

well as per all the others I received I'm just going to ignore because I don't trust VAG,they are such a load of devious liars and may use it against us

The problem will be is that if you buy a used Yeti from a Skoda/VAG dealer it will have had the "fix" ... so the numbers will increase when they take them in as part ex

I am about, (maybe?), to buy a used Yeti from a Skoda dealer as they have the best choice

On initial enquiries I have asked the salesman if the car has had the "fix" can they reverse it if I bought a car ....... he could not give me an answer

They can not reverse it.

That would be illegal even though VW say the Defeat Device was not Illegal.

Others can Roll it back.  For a fee,  see the Fixed Post in General Car Chat, and elsewhere.
